Does anyone else have problems with there Vario 2 locking up when it turns off the display?

Dunno if this is just a coincidence but I removed the last program I installed and then reinstalled it and everything seems ok now.

Only thing that is puzzling me is the fact that program worked fine yesterday even after reboots....

I've had it happen once over the past couple of months - a soft reset cured it and as it wasn't a recurring problem I didn't worry about it.

Its bizarre as I soft reset it twice and it still occured.

I've just had this three times in a row this evening. My scenario was:

* I called T-Mobile customer service and was sitting in their queue.

* I turned on the speaker phone.

* Left it playing the queue music and the screen went off to save power.

* I then came to turn off the speaker phone and pressed the standby button to get the display back on: it didn't respond. Pressing the green button didn't come on.

I had to soft reset the phone to make a call!

Hi,

I am currently trying to solve a similar problem with my Vario 2 (Herm300). The backlight appears to come on without me pressing a key, after I have put it into "standby" mode. It appears to occur when the signal strength changes, although this is unconfirmed yet. Sometimes this results in me coming back to my phone and finding it has crashed. I could also replicate this by soft resetting the phone and leaving it sitting until it crashed minutes later. A hard reset appears to have resolved the later issue for the time being. I am trawling through older posts for guidance as we speak

Yep, the problem is back when I soft reset the phone and leave it sitting there. It is not restricted to leaving it on the today screen either. I have stock T-Mobile software on after the hard reset and it still happens.

Some posts appear to be complaining about lockups around the time of the backlight going off, but I have not found a solution yet. Others have complained about the phone coming out of standby but they do not appear as frequent as mine. Either way I have not found a resolution yet.

I am beginning to think that this may be an issue specific to this phone and I may need a replacement. It will be my first chance to test T-Mobiles customer services as I have been with them for only 1 day :(

If you have a mini-SD this would appear to be able to cause lockups. I had this happen with my out of the packet card. I ended up formatting it to FAT16 and the problems stopped.

Also, you can stop the backlight going off if you wish. I have done this on my phone since I like to be able to check the time and notifications without having to switch the phone 'on'. The battery takes a small hit but its not unusable.

I have not bought a SD card yet, I have only the dummy card inserted. I will change the backlight timeout to see if it is the backlight that is causing this issue.

Thanks.

I did format my mini-SD card to FAT16 already, and this helped resolve the random crashes when running Co-Pilot sat-nav from it.

I'll take a look at disabling the auto standby feature.
