Guest Lyn2012 Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Hi, I'm new to this board and am posting as I'm about to get a new phone on contract and need some advice. The choice is between the KRZR K1 and the MDA Compact II (Charmer). I know they are quite different items but I would still appreciate any advice around the operation of the Charmer particularly with regard to the use as a straightforward phone. What are the pros and cons from people who actually use it - I've read the specifiations and, as usual, they sound great, but what is the reality? Basically it would be nice to have the PDA stuff but not essential while I do need a phone that will operate where the signal strength isn't great and still be able to hear clearly and no dropped calls. I've always used Siemens phones and recently bought the EF81. While it is a lovely phone I can't get any signal at all at home and so it has to go. Currently on O2 but will be moving to T-Mobile as their tarif seems better for a light user. Thank you in advance for your input.

T-Mobile are pretty good about returns - I think it's 14 days on an instore purchase. I would be tempted to try and see - signal on any network is very dependant on local circumstances.
Guest jonajuna Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 i have no signal strength issues at all, although hard to compare to last phone (6230i) as that was on vodafone and im now on t-mobile. its just as well you dont need the pda bit, cause although it does all a full on pda does, its slow in comparison and the screen is small for my needs this is ok and even good. i dont need or want full pda usage, so the smallness and slowness isnt a problem and the smallness is a benefit as its not really that much bigger than the 6230, well not that much  but, it will do all i need from it, even satnav with copilot, memory map for walking and now with cameraware i have a speedcamera system without booting up the sull satnav. if i was buying today, id go for it again, well actually i think id go for the Prophet (sold as I-mate JamIn, Qtek S200, XDA neo or dopod 818pdo) because this has wifi and a better camera and looks a bit nicer too the only other thing i would wish for is 3G i wouldnt go for the KRZR K1 because it has virtually no pda functionality, i like the fact the charmer runs ppc/wm5 software and if im ever stuck anywhere with the kids, i pop in finding nemo i have on sdcard and they stfu :( hope this helps
