Guest awarner (MVP) Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 If the phone is in it's default state (as the device was when you bought it) then the settings should already be correct and you should just be able to use the internet.

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 Check your device with the repository settings here for Tmobile USA http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=200967

Guest notaliberal Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Are you using the T-Zones plan or the internet plan? If it's the t-zones plan, go to this link and download and install Abatis's T-Mobile GPRS settings cabs. http://www.mobilegadgetnews.com/index.php?showtopic=7454 It's literally just install and go. You run the two cabs form your device, start PIE, set connection the WAP, and you're good to go. Good luck,

Guest mikeeey Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 this acually made it worse lol. the gprs in the corner didnt even start. so i had to uninstall it o wait no thats cuz my phone was stuck thinking it was charging so it was tryin to get a connection from the computer. but no i still recieve an eror. im using the t-mobile plan, not the internet plan tho

It sounds like we have exactly the same setup, ie device and plan. THere's no reason this shouldn't work. Few things to check: 1) Is the menu -> options -> connections in PIE, make sure it's set to connect via WAP Network and do NOT check "Automatically detect settings" 2) Delete all entries in Settings -> Connections -> GPRS --EXCEPT the ones just installed by those cab files, which are T-Mobile GPRS and T-Zones WAP 3)Shot down the phone, wait 20 seconds, boot it back up and try again. Let me know how that progresses. I'm using an SDA, with the $5.99/mo T-zones plan. That's it. Good luck

Guest notaliberal Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Oh, and make sure there's only one entry in Settings -> Connections -> Proxy It should be called T-Mobile Proxy or something similar. If there's other entries with really long, cryptic names like {34BN5O25BNQ4OTQ3TO3434} , you can delete those, wont hurt anything.

Edited October 18, 2006 by mikeeey
Guest notaliberal Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Yes, you can browse any website witht eh $5.99 plan. Things you CAN do: browse ANY website, any time, UNLIMITED access. (with a reg tweak you can even use financial websites for online banking, etc) Check POP mail accounts, not just your T-Mobile one, for free with the stock messaging app Use programs such as fizz traveller or weather, etc, that need internet connection Things you CAN'T do: Stream radion stations over GPRS Use the Modaco dedicated proxy, or any other proxy other than t-mobile's. Download files over the air that are larger than 1M (sucks, I know. Some people don't seem to have this restriction, I certainly do) With the T-zones plan, they block port 80, which is why you can't stream radio, etc. You have to use the t-mobile proxy (that's part of what those cab files installed), which for some reason media player and TCPMP can't be set to use. So, long story short, I think it's worth the money. Unlimited browsing, relatively decent speed all things considered... Of course, if you can afford the over-priced $29.99 internet plan, then all the above restractions are removed and you can do just abuot anything...god I wish that was more like $15/mo!! Anyways, good luck,

Guest notaliberal Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 cool il try to get that. 1 last question.. when using im clients such as aim or msn can u send unlimited messages or does that count under texts? as far as i know they don't count as text messages. i haven't really used them before though, so i can't say for sure. anybody able to confirm this?
Guest genaldar Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 They don't count as texts, but msn won't work. Aim will work, at least it did for me with agile messenger.

Aim will work, at least it did for me with agile messenger. thanks. now i need to hard reset tho lol. i dont know wat happened. no settings will show, the phone wont sync, and wifi settings dont work, well no settings dont work. the only thing i can think of is i installed that cab file. i had never reset my phone or turned it off yet. and today i reset it and after that this started happening, so as i speak im backing up my memory card. suggestions on roms? i liked the Qtek 8310 rom but can u change the time from 24-hours to 12-hours?
Guest notaliberal Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 I have to believe this had nothing to do with installing the cabs. Probably just a fluke. If a reboot or two doesn't fix the problem, and you end up hard resetting, then I'd go with the imate sp5m 2.6.33 ROM. Pretty similar to the qtek ROM. You can certainly change the time between 12 and 24 hour format, I think that's in the regional settings menu, or perhaps the accessibility menu. Also, I manged to confirm that the yahoo messenger works with the t-zones plan as well, no text message charges... Good luck,

Guest notaliberal Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Sorry, didn't see this last post... Differences are both good and bad Many I wont' remember to list here, but the big ones are: GOOD: Backlight always turns off after 7 seconds of the keys being locked, so instead of the light turning on for 30-60 seconds in your pocket, it only turns on for 7. Generally faster phone now, responds more quickly to keypresses, etc. Still not INSTANTANEOUS, but definite'y faster... No T-Mobile branding, but you DO see an imate boot splash - oh well BAD Can't hold # key for silent anymore, you have to set a speed dial or use the profile homescreen plugin. Make sure you install the latest Radio Only ROM as well, fixes a potential "searching..." problem That's all I can think of right now...

Guest notaliberal Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 It means no T-mobile startup/shitdown iamges/tones, plus no t-mobile proprietary programs such as the t-mo hotspot locator, etc. You probably wont miss any of it, but if you do, surrealnetworks has stuff on their site to restore some (if not all) of these programs. I think. The only thing I can think of you missing would be the hotspot locator, but as you're going with the t-zones plan like myself, it's of no use to you anyways. Good luck with the new ROM, eh...
