Gmail - Googlemail

Hello,

I've used some settings I gleaned from the web to get Gmail working on my Vario II. My first problem is that I can only download brand new email, all the mail that was in my Inbox before I set up the account on the mobile will not download to the mobile. Secondly, after I have read a mail on my mobile it will mark itself as unread and notify me again that there is new mail roughly around 3-4 hours after having originally read it. I'm pretty sure that this is a Google problem as I haven't had these problems with any other POP3 accounts I havebut apart fromthat I'm stumped. Any ideas?

hi

ive not got your problems but i do have others only with gmail which dont appear on the other three accounts set up on pop

basically i get an email i download it on my ppc. i read it or dont read it. the next time i click send and recieve (Whether ive read the email not read the email or deleted some email)

gmail wipes my inbox clean and deletes everything. (its still there on the web inbox and i mark it unread and it often redownloads again but to dissappear next time send and recieve is done)

i dont use the gmail on often just to send stuff to some accounts but it would be nice to know why send recieve wipes my inbox clean

this does not happen with any other pop account the others if i download a mail then read it etc etc it stays in my inbox till i delete or move it etc like it should

I've googled this problem and come across other people with, it seems, similar problems to both of us but not found any answers at all. There is a lot of talk about Googles servers/software being to blame though.

Use Qmail instead, Outlook is s***.

A way round it is to set up a free mail2web account. You then forward all your mail from gmail to mail2web and get the benefit of push email on your handset. Only downside is that mail sent from your handset originates from mail2web domain, although easy enough to use a signature file or just use your gmail pop account to send from.

Under you account options in Pocket Outlook, select 'Get Message Headers Only' and enter 999kb

That should solve the disappearing mail problem

Also...make sure you've selected the approptiate option in your Google Mail settings on your desktop.

There should be an option to download ALL email received under the Forwarding and POP settings section.

I've changed the settings for my google account to headers only and 999kb I think I have the download all new mail from x selected ill go back when I have time and change it to ALL mail instead

cheers for the tips lets see if they work.

at the doctor don't really want mail2web as I've got outlook set up nicely on my ppc and pc and don't want to mess with the settings. unless mail2web is free and does not change the sync settings if I enable push email. as the account I'd really want to push is actually my yahoo account and the one that outlook syncronises on the desktop as that is my most used account.

mail2web doesn't change how things sync with your PC, or at least not via the free account. Basically it will sync OTA with the mail2web account to your inbox on the PPC, which would then sync as normal with Outlook on your PC when you connect it to that.

Personally I find that gmail doesn't make much sense though outlook.

I tend to stick with the mobile web page they provide.

Interesting thread. I have my VarioII set up to download my gmail and send via gmail onto the standard client. It's been working fine until yesterday where it has a go at downloading (gets some of them) and then gives up.

Checked the settings. Tried via wireless / 3G but the same.

I'm hoping it's a temporary "funny" as it was excellent before yesterday

My Gmail doesn't download anything at all.

Tried it on an XDA Exec and a C600 smartphone...

Actually if it's of use, seems I had a rouge email in the outbox that was messing things up.

Removing it meant the whole thing worked again and continues to work.

So I'm back to sending & receiving GMAIL from the inbuilt client.
