Windows Mobile Device Failed - Vista

I am having problems connecting my phone to my laptop running Vista RC1. I'm not even getting to the Sync Manager or WMDC stage becuase the drivers wont install. When I plug the phone in it says 'Installing device driver software' and the RNDIS driver appears to install OK but then it comes up 'Windows Mobile Device Failed' when trying to install the phone. The phone installed OK yesterday but then I installed activesync becuse it wasn't syncing properly (oops - I now know I shouldn't and dont need to do this on Vista - but too late now!) Ever since then I just get these problems. In device manager I get the exclaimation mark against Windows Mobile device and it says 'device cannot start (CODE10)'. In device manager I have tried uninstalling update driver etc etc but nothing. I have reinstalled Vista (upgrade) but still no joy. But is this a Vista problem anyway - what could be done to fix a similar problem with XP / Activesync?? Thanks
