unlocking phone through service provider

what is the difference between unlocking through methods which are found around here and paying for them

cause i called tmobile and they said they can send me the unlocking via my email

There is generally not much difference, normally networks charge for unlocking their devices which is why the free methods became possible as some did not want to pay.

Generally the paid methods are easier to do and the free methods require playing with the registry etc.
