SMS/Email received, but no notification(s)

Is anyone else having problems with their STAR100/StrTrk/Cingular 3125/etc. where SMS and/or email messages are received, but with no notification, regardless of selected profile? If you go to "Messaging", the number of messages are correctly displayed adjacent to the appropriate type(s) of message(s).

Classic example for me: the phone is on the table next to me; one minute, I receive a SMS message which is announced with the appropriate alert/sound. A little while later, I open the phone to find that I received subsequent SMS and/or email messages but was not alerted to their arrival.

Usually a set of soft reboots in quick succession will restore the alerting.

To make sure this behavior is not related to the various "unsigned" utilities I choose to run, I hard reset the phone back to the original Cingular settings and used the phone for less than a day before the problems started again.

I read somewhere the older STAR100 models (iMate Smartflip, Qtek 8500) had some bug in the deep-sleep mode, and I'm wondering if the bug has not been completely fixed. Here's why I think that's the case: I set the alarm, and went about my business. About 20 minutes after the alarm was to have sounded, I happened to look at the clock and discovered I was now running behind. I inspected the alarm settings - it was set correctly (AM vs PM, alarm=ON). When I went to press the power button to shut it down, the alarm started sounding as the phone shut off!

I realize that I should probably take the phone back and swap it out, but I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same problem and found the culprit, or a "tweak" to fix the problem.

You didn't mention what type of phone you were using. If it is a QTek 8500, then your choice is either to unlock the phone (imei-check.com) for $40 and install a different ROM like the Cingular one (http://www.america.htc.com/support/cingular_3125_downloads.html), or to buy a program ($8) called StayConnected which pings the phone every few minutes to keep it awake. If you don't have the 8500, rather the Cingular 3125, then you should return the phone and get a new one.

I'm using the Cingular 3125 w/the 2.4.502.0 ROM

I'll return it, but have the feeling I'll be doing that a lot... :-(

Are you using DontForget, or AlarmInfo? I installed these, and had the same problem. Uninstalled, rebooted, refreshed my homescreen by changing it, and changing back, and the problem went away.

I'm using DontForget, but it seems to be similarly afflicted - home screen does not indicate any messages, but when I open Messaging, I'll have a lot of messages waiting on me (POP3, SMS and Push).

If I reboot the phone several times, or do a battery-boot (remove/reinsert battery), the problem goes away for a while.

Since my post, I have a new issue: the home screen indicates I have (1) SMS and (4) POP3 messages, but I have no unread messages. I cleared out all of the messages from Inbox and Deleted folders, and the home screen (and DontForget) keep telling me I have unread messages.

Aaarrgh.

That's exactly what he was saying...Don't Forget seems to be the problem. I'm using it too and many times the SMS/Outlook e-mail count doesn't get updated and I don't even get the notification. Uninstall Don't Forget and post a message to his support site - http://blog.softimage.cz/?page_id=84. It's funny that I'm reading this cause I thought the problem was with AbstractStart but I guess I'll try getting rid of Don't Forget and see if that works. It's a shame cause I really like Don't Forget. It helps out a lot. I guess I'll have to wait for it to come out of beta.
