Error with Exchange server sycnonisation - nut only on one PC?

I wonder if anyone can help.

I have an Orange SPVM3100 and have set it up to synchronise mail, calendar, etc with my work exchange server.

This works perfectly when (i) I sync on my work pc on my work network, (ii) I sync wirelessly over GPRS or 3G, (iii) if I sync at home using the WiFi network.

But, if I connect the PDA to my home PC (on the same network as home WiFi) then I get an error:

"The server could not be reached. This can be caused by temporary network conditions. Support code 80072efd."

The 'files' option is checked to sync directly with the PC (not using the exchange server) and this works fine. I can browse, install, etc fine on the home PC.

It doesn't matter how oftern I try, I always get the same error. I have tried setting the relationship in the parternship to 'The Internet' and 'Work' (with and without a proxy setting) but these make no difference.

It's not a major problem because I can sync in all the other ways. I just don't understand why it won't work on my home PC. BTW, I had an c600 previously with the same settings and this sync'd fine on the home PC.

Grateful for any advice ...

I had a problem with Internet pass through with the latest version of Activesync - i couldn't access anything while my phone was hooked up to the Pc with the same error code as you. After a bit of digging I found this registry change on a MSDN blog (the reg change should be made on your desktop PC, not the phone), I think this might work for you too:

ActiveSync version 4.2 made a change to how it interacts with the Windows networking stack to use Layered Service Providers (LSPs) on outgoing Desktop-Pass-Through connections. This allows for improved compatibility & policy compliance in environments where connections to the internet must be passed through these LSPs (ISA Proxy is one such example).

Unfortunately, it appears this change has caused some issues for a small segment of users who have LSPs that interfere with ActiveSync communication.

There is a registry key which can be created to essentially remove this change & revert to ActiveSync 4.1 behaviour. This key is:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]

"AllowLSP"=dword:0

or just install activesync 4.5 beta if you want to use the newer way.

Even better, thank you. Now my PDA doesn't seem to drop off the USB connection quite so often. Oh no, perhaps I shouldn't have said that ...
