Hi, I may sound stupid, I've been using a windows mobile forever, since the original SPV, and took delivery of the new M3100 this morning. I have a few questions, as this is the first proper phone that I have used with WM5 (C600 is not the same).

1) I can't seem to find an explanation on how to set up direct push email, is this just a posh term of what windows mobile has always had (ie Auto send/recieve every X mins)?

2) I also cannont find MSN mobile or any varients that have been in the past.

Any help on these would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Msn is missing from the orange phones as they have thier own version , but shortly you will be able to download windows live mobile which is the same as msn but better, its being tested at the moment by beta testers its a matter of waiting sadly unless you can join in the programme of testers.

Have not used push email yet but you should find info on how to set it up in the thicker book that came with the phone

to use push mail you have to be connected to an exchange 2003 SP2 server. Once you've setup you exhange server a/c with your phone you should have the option to always keep up to date.

Orange has only just announced that it is going to use Live messenger - I wouldn't hold your breath. In the mean time why don't you just install messenger?

There are many threads on seting up push email, if you do a search on hear for mail2web you should find all the details to set it up.

Why do you say the C600 isn't a proper WM5 phone? It is. The M3100 is a WM5 PPC whereas the C600 is a WM5 SmartPhone - Push email and messenger are both available on the C600.

Am I missing something here? I've got a Orange M3100 and I added a new email account (pop3) and set it to send/receive every 15mins and all works fine.

What's the difference or benifit of pushmail or similar

With push email you do not need to wait 15 minutes. As soon as the mail reaches the server it gets sent to you.

to setup mail2web to use push email,

go into Activesync

click

- add server source..

Server name: mobile.exchange.mail2web.com

User name: [yourusername]@mail2web.com

Domain: ad2

and your away,

please bear in the data costs of having this running (if your not on an unlimited data package)

as push email with turn on your data connection if it isn;t running and if you shut down your data activesync will open it back up.

also you can't have push email running and sync your outlook mail box. on the same phone...

quick note to the above steps... After that you need to go inte schedule for activesync and set peak time to "When it arrives" same thing for off peak (6pm-8am) if you want it.

Thanks for all your help, the exchange server is working fine, but i still cant find where to install MSN messenger, and cant understand why it did not come with the handset as all previous SPVs have?

Orange were going to reease there own IM client but have ditched it and are going to use Live messenger - in the mean time you are left with nothing. You can dowmload an old version from MS website and upgrade it.
