Okay folks, here's another annoying problem I have with theme creating on my new Qtek 8500 WM5 smartphone: although I've changed the registry settings for items :MSCDial and :MSCONTACTS to point the BKBitmapFile to my theme files - rebooted - nothing. No contact image appears, and the dialscreen image remains as the default one. I've checked the registry after rebooting and they still point to my files. I've tried a factory reset and also installing themes from other themers such as W4lly and DrBlow - nothing is working here.

Can anyone help please????

Did mine and DrBlows skin the screens (I've never tested on WM5)? Maybe they don't like bitmaps?

nope - neither worked. I'm using gifs for the images. Perhaps I should be trying jpg or png images.

My phone has a .gif as the MSCDial image (Although I'm running WM2003se). Does your path start with the backslash (ie.. \Application Data\Home not Application Da...)?

With a bit of digging this guy seems to have done it... http://www.mlab.name/forum/viewtopic.php?id=41

Its in french mind so translate it with your preffered translator. From what I've read there's 2 parts to the tutorial. Good luck

in call screen has been changed successfully - need to save any image as \windows\cprogback.png - and overwrite the existing one, so probably a good idea to back it up first

Ah, I think in WM2003 there's no image for the dial screen.. Just the gradient lines like in the Star Menu so that may be why it reads it from the registry in MSCDial. Maybe removing the path to \windowszcprogback.png (whereever it is) would let the phone read the registry from MSCDial.

Does your method survive a soft reset?

In WM2003SE every screen can be skinned - see my portfolio of themes.

My method survives soft resets, and although not an ideal solution, is a workaround I can live with for now.

Still annoyed at the contacts screen though - is this just an 8500 problem? Surely other people using WM5 would have noticed this?
