Guest moodog Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 I am wondering if there is a handsfree/headset kit for the HTC Hermes (specifically Orange M3100, although that's not really important), that will allow me to plug another set of headphones into it, similar to the way in which the handsfree for the SonyEricsson w800i works. I've listened to music using the standard set for about 30 mins, and my ears were in excruciating pain from the size of the buds. (I'm not sure if this is the best spot for this post, please move elsewhere - there's so many forums to choose from).

Guest moodog Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 Hi Moodog, and welcome to Modaco  There is a 3.5mm standard headphone socket adaptor available now from expansys (rather pricey though at 10) the Orange M3100 as you know is a variant of the HTC hermes. for mucho-info, check out the Hermes section under pocket pc or http://hermes.modaco.com Hey, thanks for this Fragmeister. While it's not quite what I was after, it looks like the best option available at the moment for using different ear buds (apart from bluetooth). I guess with a bit more time other accessories will come on to the market. It would be good to find one that still has the remote control options of answering/hangup/voice dial etc. built into the cable. Will wait and see.
Guest Dr Who Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 Yeah, I mean WTF is HTC's problem?????? I have never seen an HTC headset that fits a normal persons ears! They would be better off making them too small than far too bloody big. EVERY single HTC handset I have had I haven't actually been able to fit the damned things into my ears. I think the manufacturers 'ear models' must have freakishly large lug-holes - probably the same person they use as hand-models when they take photos of people holding the phones, the phones always look tiny!
Guest Pondrew Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 Moved to correct forum as it's a Pocket PC Phone rather then a Smartphone

I confess I have freakish ears - they fit me fine, but then I also have feet that resemble frogmen's flippers
Guest Christopher Woods Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 IIRC there's a thread on XDA-Dev about cannibalising the hands-free connector (which is basically a slightly customised-shape mini-USB connector with a couple of extra pin connections) and splicing regular headphones onto the handsfree portion of the cable... Course, you have to be sure that you don't mind risking losing both the handsfree and the headphones, which could get expensive if they're something like MDR-EX71s, but I'm considering trying it with my old pair.
Guest FragMeister Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 if you're feeling handy with a soldering iron, then forum member Dade has a how-to guide on tracyandmatt.co.uk and this was discussed at some length when the hermes was first out. IIRC Dade was even offering to do the headset mod for you if like me you have no manual dexterity!
