Guest bacus Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 While I'm waiting for my Vario II to arrive, I've bought a Sandisk 2GB microSD + SD adaptor. From reading the threads on here, it seems the general consensus is to format the card as FAT16 to avoid potential problems. The problem is, when I put the microSD in the SD adaptor then place that in my card reader, the computer doesn't see it at all. Explorer hangs when clicking on the drive. Computer Management's Disk Management wont even show the drive letter, and command prompt gives an IO error. I've tried a different SD card in the reader and it works fine. I've tried the microSD card in 3 different readers on 2 different PC's and all are the same. However, If I put the card in my digital camera it works fine - formatted, took a few photo's, played them back. Also, if I put it in an iPAQ hx4700 again it works fine. Speaking to a friend who has the same card, he found the same thing. It's works fine in his Vario II (he didn't re-format it) but refuses to work in his PC & card reader combo. What are we doing wrong? How did you guys manage to format your cards as FAT16? Lee
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Check the age ond compatability of the card readers as not all will work with larger cards. Mobymemory sell a card reader that will work as they do a combo buy with reader and card.

Couldn't find anything about compatibility on the 3 readers (all USB2), but what you said inspired me to try an old USB1.1 reader and guess what? - It works !!! Thanks for putting me on the right track.
