Hey all

Im looking for a rom update for my v1240 and i stumbled across this:

http://america.htc.com/support/cingular_2125_downloads.html

has anyone tried installing this?

if i was to install this on my v1240 would it kill it? arent they basically the same phone?

thanx

EDIT:06/11/06

I've installed the Cingular rom on my v1240 and all seems to be running fine, just going to install all my software onto it and will post back.

its actually not that bad, but then i dont use T9 at all! prefer multitap!

It's a good upgrade except for one major problem. It has some bug that prevents text'ing from working right. Each key has its own behavior but basically you'll think you're losing it when you try to compose an email or sms. Both abc and T9 have the same problem. There are other topics on this problem so it's even on non-2125 variants of the Tornado. I've tried to contact HTC but they don't respond.

Hello

so, asides from the 'texting' issue, which im willing to try, as i dont use T9 anyway, is the rom fine?

i cant seem to find any topics, google gave me back nothing. can anyone point me in the direction of any discussions on this please.

also, if i was to flash the 2125 rom to my device, what would it do to it? has it been done in the past?

i've flashed the Qtek and Imate roms to my v1240 along with the vodafone rom so im no stranger to flashing roms!

however, the 'gripe' i have is the fact that the 2125 doesnt look anything like the 8310! so im curious as to whether or not they have diff insides,

are they the SAME thing just a different case?

any help with this would be great. im gna flash it tomorrow morning once im confident its not going to kill my phone! and will post back

Yes if you're willing to tolerate the T9/texting issue it's a good upgrade. Adds some major new features like push email and stereo bluetooth capability, as well as some minor things that have made it better and more stable. If you're Cingular I would advise sticking with the Cingular ROM because of the builtin settings for their network. Otherwise with these generic ROMs you're in for some additional fun in getting it to work for data connections and other Cingular-specific things.
