Guest Coatsy Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Maybe this is a bit hackneyed, but has anyone used QuickIM on their phone? I'll admit, I was skeptical because of the natural limitations of a mobile phone screen, not to mention connection speed issues. After all, I find web browsing to often be a less than satisfactory experience. However, as a novice in the world of PDAs and Smartphones, I downloaded my second third party program for my new Treo. As a trial period you will receive 30 messages to send, which I found is plenty to make yourself familiar with the interface. It was amazing being able to talk to my friends (on computers of course) with virtually no delay. And, for a technophobe like me, setup was surprisingly and pleasantly simple: you simply type in your IM enabled email address and password and go; it imports your existing contacts for you. Chatting was mostly a delight and my test subjects on the computers reported nothing abnormal with my transmitted messages. As far as we could humanly tell, I appeared to be coming through another computer, rather than a phone. Once again, I'll be honest. As I said earlier, these devices do have screen size limitations, and using QuickIM isn't perhaps quite as pleasant as utilising the corresponding program on a full size computer. But since, you can't take computers around with you in your pocket, I reckon it's a fair trade-off. I thoroughly recommend that you at least download the trial. After all, (it is the best, and second worst, program I've loaded onto my phone) http://www.quickim.com/
Guest pisquee Posted October 26, 2006 Report Posted October 26, 2006 Personally, I use agile messenger. Agile works with MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google, XMPP and AOL. It is free to use, works on Smartphone and PPCPE, and is available form www.agilemobile.com.
