My baby...battery probs

Ever since about 1/1.5 weeks ago now, my Imate SP5m, which has been an awesome device since I got it almost exactly a year ago, keeps running out of juice in about 1-2 days! Nothing has changed in its usage.

I mostly always have bluetooth on and thats it. I don't talk much on the phone, or text really. Even if I switch off bluetooth, the device lasts me about 2 days as before it used to last me a good 4 leaning on towads 5 days of usage without charging.

No doubt I've ran down the battery, switched off and on the phone, just in case, but that still didn't make a difference.

could this be time for me to buy a new batt for the Imate SP5m? if so - where can I obtain a genuine batt from?

What are your thoughts on this? What problem could there be?

Install Maniac's AutoKeylock. The biggest reason for th poor battery life is the poor way they handle the backlight. It lights up (and for too long) every time you bump your phone in it's case or your pocket.

Install the autokeylock, and make sure to enable the screensaver, and it will prevent the backlight from coming on all the time. You won't believe the difference it will make!!!

Oh, but you MUST INSTALL THE BETA!! Version 3.87 doens't do this yet (4.0 is just around the corner), so you have to go into the beta section and install that. Works like a charm. Most important program on my phone (SDA).

It also has the option to auto unlock the keys on an incoming call - another must have...

thats not the problem though. My backlight doesnt come on at all, and even when its not in my pocket, I've left it out for 2 days without taking it out and it just runs down like hell.

however before hand it was working very well, with or without the keylight coming up and all of a sudden it just reduced its battery lifetime the last 3 weeks.

my phone is usually on keypad lock mode so only 1-2 keys allow it to show the screen again (to unlock it)

Odd. My device (T-mo SDA - same thing basically) made the backlight come on for whatever the timeout was set to any time you pressed ANY button in your pocket. I wished and wished for the scenario you explained, where only one or two specific (and hard to accidentally press) buttons would turn it on. It only makes sense!!

However, the general concensus on phone batteries is that they have a limited number of charge cycles in them before they really head downhill. I forget what the actual number is, but I think it was around 300-400 or something. So, perhaps you indeed have just hit the end of you battery's prime. Now it's over the hill, so to speak...

No idea where to get a good one, I only know that you MUST get an OEM one to avoid having it explode in your pocket. I think this becomes more likely (when using a crappy battery) as the power requirements of the phone increase, so a smartphone would probably put one hell of a load on a cheap knock-off battery...

Good luck,

much appreciated for your advice and I agree, I'm after a genuine (OEM) battery. would be nice if someone knew where I can obtain one from.

I Have 2 C500's and they are still pretty strong after 3 years now, one of which has been 2 years and I get a good 5 days out of them without recharging and thats using bluetooth, making/recieving calls and txt's

It was the same with my Imate SP5m until 3 weeks ago.
