After leaked spy-shots and reviews of pre-release generic devices, it looks like Dopod are first to show their HTC Herald variant to the world!

Named the Dopod C800 , the device features...

- a TI OMAP 850 processor at 200MHz

- GSM / GPRS / EDGE

- 128 MB ROM

- 64 MB RAM

- Adobe Reader (PDF)

- HTC Audio Manager

- RSS Reader

- Preinstalled Cyberon software

- Sprite Backup

- Zio Golf

- WiFi 802.11b/g

- Bluetooth V2.0 with A2DP / AVRCP

- 2 Megapixel Camera

- 109 x 59 x 17 mm

- 168 g

- 1130 mAh battery

- microSD expansion

Think thin HTC Wizard or HTC Prophet with keyboard

No video calling, high speed data, or high performance processor? That's a bit of a shame...

On the other hand, who uses video calling? GPRS is useable enough for basic surfing and email headers. Size is everything for many people. Seems like a legitimate gap in the market to me. Not everything has to be top spec.

Yeah... and remember poor types like me who live out of 3G coverage

Plus, it'll probably have great battery life.

I'm kinda fond of the 200MHz OMAP 850. I don't find it slow for my purposes, and on the Artemis I have atm, they seem to have optimised it so it runs even better.

Put it this way, switching to the Artemis from my Vario, I don't notice a difference in general use!

A Prophet with a keyboard would be great

Am a little disappointed by the processor, and 3G would have been nice, and then there's the microSD.

Hmm...

I'm back with Smartphone at the moment, but this might be one for the future

I share the affection for the OMAP processors. Love the battery life and OMAP Clock makes any OMAP device a LOT more versatile. But having experienced HSDPA download speeds I don't think I want to go back...

...roll on the new generation OMAP processors with 3G/3.5G incorporated.

Laser_iCE - I moved your post to the right topic

re: the indicators, why so excited?

It's cool, but I find the onscreen indicators work fine!

I'm very interested to see whether this will tempt me away from my Vario II.

After all, it'll help me decide whether I need a compact size, or 3G connectivity

Im quite satisfied with my wizards performance and features and features, the only thing i dont like is the size and the herald will fix that problem.

Any speculation on pricing?

Yeah size does matter.

it feels awkward carrying around the wizard in your pocket, So i am using my SP3i most of the time.

but i hope this will be gr8...
