Guest Lynswin Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 Hi I was thinking of buying an mp3 player that can play videos. I have found what seems to be a good one at a very reasonable price and the video files it supports are 3gp. Now all I know about 3gp files is that these are the ones that most mobile phones play! I want to play mainly music videos on it so can someone answer these questions? What format are the music videos that you download from places like itunes? If they are not 3gp files can you convert them to 3gp files? Also, can you convert any/most/other video files to 3gp? I don't want to end up buying one and then not be able to get any videos to play on it!! Thanks for any help Lynda

I think Apples iTunes uses a a proprietary format. Richard
Guest Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 itunes uses .mp4 for their video. This does allow for much better quality than .3gp. The full version of Quicktime will allow you to convert .mp4 (among others) to .3gp One thing though, apple uses drm (digital rights) on their audio so .mp3 you buy from itunes will only play on an iPod (for now). I would assume they use similar methods of protection on their video downloads but am not certain as I've never downloaded from them. hth gr
