Orange and Data Packages

Hi,

I have a M3100 and I'm really happy with it. Everything is working as it should, and it's just a really great device.

The only problem I have since changing from a C600 is that I am now hammering the data, and that ain't cheap.

My question is this:

Of those of you on Orange, what is the current perceived wisdom around data packages? If I'm going to use 40-50MB per month, what is best package to go for at the moment? I speak to Orange from time to time but it's a case of the 'helpdesk wheel of misfortune'. Some staff there didn't even know that data packages existed.

Does anyone know where Orange is going with this over the next couple of years? The current £££'s/MB seems utterly ridiculous.

Unless you can get the unlimited Orange World package - you might find it cheaper to cancel your contract and move to T-Mobile. There was an £8 pm unlimited package, but that seems to have involved standing on one leg on the third tuesday of the month if the moon was pink to get... They do an evening only unlimited package but... If you're a high voice spender they might be interested in offering you something.

Well moving to T-Mobile is not really an option, as they gave me the £50 upgrade on the phone, but having said that, I'll get a quote from them and do the sums. Looking at T-Mobs WnW package, I would probably save a fortune.

So, if T-Mob are doing the whole unlimited data thing, why are Orange dragging their heels?

As to your last point good question! To be fair they offer better data packages than Vodafone or O2...

As the Vario Ii is only 89 on the lowest contract fom TM you might still be better switching...

I've just done the switch from Orange (was with them for 12yrs) and already noticed some coverage black spots that weren't issues with orange. However they're not in areas I go regularly

Orange around here (surrey/hants border) has been having some real issues, my friends who have had 100% signal for the last 4 years, now get full signal on the phone screen until they make a call, then it dies. Try to use GPRS and it never connects.

Oh, Orange's GPRS was/is 28.8 (without EDGE or 3G), and T-mobile are 56k ! T-mobile also have really fast HSDPA enabled, I'm getting 800k/sec at home on the Vario II. ( I went for the w'n'w Pro plan, so haven't had to call CS to get HSDPA enabled, it just worked)
