Guest dashuser Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 Anyone else having problems with the activesync connecting to their windows exchange server? I see that there are a lot of posts out there with smiliar problems. I am wondering if anyone specifically with the Dash has had similiar experiences and found a work around. I have already gone to our OMA site and loaded the certificate on the device. That did not work. Any other ideas?

I have the HTC S620 ( not the T-Mobile branded ) and have no problems with exchange through EDGE and WiFi. Direct Push works great also ! What is the problem exactly ?
Guest chaznet Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 My Dash has worked great with Exchange since I got it -- you weren't clear on what issues you're running into. Haven't noticed other posts regarding this -- where did you see 'lots of posts' about it? Anyone else having problems with the activesync connecting to their windows exchange server? Guest CorporateMonkey Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 Activesync works great on my dash. What problems are you experiencing?
Guest chaznet Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 He wasn't talking about ActiveSync exactly, but Microsoft Exchange and over-the-air sync. Glad ActiveSync is working out for you  Activesync works great on my dash. What problems are you experiencing?

Glad ActiveSync is working out for you  Sorry that is actually what I meant. I have been using exchange for sometime now. The only downside with exchange on the dash (not the dashes fault, but AKU3 instead) is the check time is slightly less, but not enough to matter. I would get email/calendar updates on my SDA (sp5m rom) a few seconds quicker than on the Dash. I suspect this is part of the new extended battery life code optimizations. The dash's battery is a smaller capacity, yet it last longer.
Guest chaznet Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 (edited) Hmmm... might be your server. I also had a SDA prior to my Dash. As with my SDA/SP5m ROM combo, with Outlook running, I still get new messages on my device first (using http://4smartphone.net as my hosted Exchange service)... Sorry that is actually what I meant. As with my SDA/SP5m ROM combo, with Outlook running, I still get new messages on my device first (using http://4smartphone.net as my hosted Exchange service)... I still get them before outlook (or in my case Entourage). I am not the only one that has noticed this. I think with AKU3 they slowed down the heartbeat signal slightly to increase battery life. As I said I really think it is a non issue, but it is just part of the new "features" Now if I could only have BT Dial networking, I would be a happy camper...
Guest chaznet Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 Oh, Entourage, that explains it, Macs are so much slower overall :( Just kidding, you're probably right, I haven't exactly timed things -- just a happy Dash user  I still get them before outlook (or in my case Entourage). The timing of the heartbeat signal shouldn't affect message receiving in normal use. The heartbeat is only to "remind" the server of your IP address in case of lost communication due to a cell dropout, or switching to a different cell when on GPRS. Any message received or sent will renew the "heartbeat" timer. So the only time messages would be delayed is if you have lost contact with the server, and until the next heartbeat. I don't know what this is in AKU3 by default, but in AKU2 it is 15 minutes. The Exchange Server can modify the heartbeat time. Perhaps you could try sending a sequence of messages to yourself at 1, 5, 10, 15 & 30 minute intervals and see what the delivery time is? If there is a delay even with the shorter timings, then it would suggest the delay is due to message progagation rather than the AUTD (Direct Push) system.

Another possible cause is firewall timing out before the heartbeat. On the topic of BT DUN, although replaced with PAN it does work very well on my S620. Only problem I have is that it always uses GPRS even if a WiFi connection is available...
Guest Mrs. Dash Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Is it possible to have two exhange server email accounts setup on the dash? Thanks
Guest spacerace Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 I don't think so no. You'd have to change the exchange profile settings which would cause an entirely new sync to be performed...
Guest chaznet Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 If you could do with just your mail from one of them, you could set one up as IMAP, and the other as Exchange. Won't do you much good if you need the contacts, calendar and tasks from both, but, it might be better than no access to one of them at all. Otherwise, no, just one on the device :) Is it possible to have two exhange server email accounts setup on the dash? Thanks
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Is it possible to have two exhange server email accounts setup on the dash? No, you can't sync with 2 servers (at least not easily and reliably) We've tried sync'ing with 2 setups via USB and Outlook and it's not simple (you have to change the ActiveSync settings each time) and it's not reliable (frequent corruption of the calendar in my experience) The best setup we've found is to forward email from one to the other and sync just one (over the air, or via USB). You can also setup rules to automatically forward meeting invites to the second account, so they can be accepted and added to that calendar. It works well, the only issue being that contacts aren't as easy to transfer between accounts (I tend to add them as email attachments, but it's not very elegant a solution).
