Assuming the final pricing is competitive with the 30GB iPod, would you?

Probably, because I hate the fact the iPod can't play WMAs (at all) without have iTunes ruin transcode them first.

I need more info about the Zune. Knows its a forthcoming MP3/WMA player from Microsoft but little aside from that. More info?

Does everything, video, music, wifi etc. Should be lots of info about now, due to be released before xmas i think? If i didnt want the 80GB of storage then i'd struggle to decide whether to get an iPod over a Zune...

Zune all the way. Give me the screen real estate :).

but it is weird that it won't play music bought at play for sure sites (it supports all non drm music, but the only drm music it will play is stuff bought at the new zune store site). Course if you're buying drm music you are something that probably shouldn't be mentioned on a site kids can come to.

Laughable Wifi.. you can send a 'tester' track to someone with another Zune in the vicinity, but they can only play it 3 times before it expires and they have to buy it.

No other use for the wireless AT ALL.

Sucks a little that they've cut off all Mac users in terms of support - but alas I hate the look of the Zune, and Im waiting on the new big-daddy iPod to replace my scratched little 4gb nano.

Apple FTW

I've read rumours on various blogs (searching Zune UK delay on Technorati will find some) where people are suggesting it won't be released in the UK till end-2007, maybe start of 2008!

This seems so far off what would make sense, but wondered if anyone knew more.

I could see maybe a little delay, but a full year? That seems a bit crazy.

I'm in the US in March so i'll have to check it out when i'm there if they aren't here yet. Only 30GB is still the killer for me though...(esp with say, 350MB film files...)

As for wifi, yeah spork i read about that, shame really. No doubt it'll be bodged into something more useful though? :)

Do we get a choice? :)

Seriously though I would like to see a review of the Zune as I don't like the itunes application which you have to have to use the ipod shuffle etc.

Also I want something that plays my music without converting it first, but the shuffle is ideal for me at work where as the Zune would not be.

i so want one, but without a vista client or a mac client, it would be rather pointless for me cos i don't have a windows XP machine in my house

. so i am gonna pass on this and wait for hardware version 3. (apparently current Zune's are version 2)

/me looks for something else to buy himself for Christmas.

I actually like (most of) the iTunes application, and I only use MP3s now (too lazy to convert) so my Nano suits me fine.

I haven't yet heard anything that would make me think Zune is better. Equal maybe, but no better.

Zune appeals to me because it can play WMAs, and I don't really like iTunes.

Haven't tried the Zune software yet tho, mainly because i'm on Vista and it isn't... bit of a bummer as my device should be here any day now - think i'll be syncing it with my still-XP living room Media Center.

You don't have to use iTunes to create the db for the shuffle. Theres a python alternative. It just sits on the shuffle itself and after you've loaded the songs you want you run it and a few seconds later you're done.

Glad to see you got the black one. That docking connector looks suspiciously like the old e100/e200/blue angel/etc connector ;p

The black is nice, but the white is ok too. My question is why did they make a brown one? I can't imagine anyway clamoring for brown.

The brown does work imho, due to the soft-touch finish. Guess its the closest thing they could think of to a leather effect :)

No. I'd get it in black too. :) (Although as much as i try to get my music collection to under 30GB it just isnt happening, it looks like i'll be taking the iPod path anyway, as much as i hate iTunes...)
