Guest busted Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 I'm hoping you guys and gals can help me :P I want to sync my email (BT webmail) with a smartphone (looking at M3100 or Nokia E61). Is it possible without using outlook on my PC? Basically I want to be able to access my email from my phone without going onto the website. I tried asking in the shop and all the guy kept telling me was 'once you sync with outlook on your PC' despite me repeating that I didn't want to do that :D Or he gibbered on about push and pull email, neither of which I understand (nor did he I fear) :) I'd like to get an idea if I can do this before commiting to buy/upgrade to one of these handsets. BTW I apologise if this is a) a noddy question, :D totally unfeasable! Ian
Guest Shuflie Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 If you can get POP3 access to your email account then you can sync it with your phone, if its purely web based access then you're out of luck. I don't have a BT Webmail account to check what's available so you'll need to check with BT for yourself.

If I set this up correctly, I assume that I just need to connect via GPRS/3G and then it'll pickup any new emails?
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Yes, basically. Get the POP settings (you can probably find them on your PC, or on BTs website in a "how to setup Outlook" document) For sending emails you'll need to either use your network (eg: Orange) SMTP service, or an SMTP service from elsewhere - BT probably wont let you use theirs as you're not logged on to their network so they won't know it you and not a spammer. You normally get SMTP services with web hosting accounts, or you can try someone like Plus Net for about £2/month
Guest busted Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Thanks Guys :D Just got to get my upgrade now :) Ian
