1.20 Radio on T mobile (UK)

Has anyone upgraded thier RADIO above 1.16 to 1.20 and noticed and notable differences.

Many ppl report improved batter life.

But before i go ahead would like some opinions of fellow T Mobile UK users experiences.

Thanks for any input.

I do find that 1.16 is better than original RADIO....in clarity and signal strength.

Can you SIM unlock using Pofs radio stack then install this one over the top?

Does 1.16 improve 3G signal strength much? Does it effect HSDPA?

How scary is updating? :)

Questions (from posts above)

1) Can you SIM unlock using Pofs radio stack then install this one over the top?

2) Does 1.16 improve 3G signal strength much? Does it effect HSDPA?

3) How scary is updating?

Answers (to above)

1) Thats exactly what i did, after the Unlock the RADIO showed as 1.13, no problems during 1.16 RADIO only upgrade, in fact would say that phone more stable signal bars since last update - but only been on it for a day!

2) sorry dont live in a 3G area...but when i travel i will let you know

3) its always scary...but the procedure is very easy.

Must admit I've not jumped in yet - VERY SCARY!

I was wondering the same thing - is it really worth it?

Just completed the upgrade. All went well.

You have to run the program twice. The first time it returns an error and asks you to quit. Then you immediately run it again and it works, even though tells you there was an error but you just soft reset and it's all done.

Takes aroind 20 minutes.

Don't do it if you get jumpy about error boxes or you'll end up wetting yourself

It's too early to make a full appriasal but I now have 3G downstairs at home when I used to get just gprs!

Just done it too; painless, got the same error message as above, and nothing to worry about really.

And the phone's working fine as well; just received atext and made a phone call...

Just to clarify sparkymodaco and emyllis are you now on 1.20 or 1.16 RADIO

If you went to 1.20 what were you on before....1.13 or 1.16?

ok according to my device the radio on this one is actually 1.05 hsdpa works well and so do phone calls 99% of the time

every now and then i have to ring a number more than once as it does not go through.

looking through the threads (there are 10!!! pages of it on xda) it looks bloody scary and some peoplle had to hard reset

is there a way of upgrading the radio without sim unlocking it or faffing about with anything else other than the radio or getting messages that make you want to poo in your pants thanks

i know this is kinda a newbie question but i dont want to do ANYTHING untoward to my phone.

Here, here!

I'm quite loathe to do anything until I've got a proper TMob ROM to go back to. I wonder what the insurance implications are to flashing it and screwing up your phone? Not good I imagine.

You dont have to SIM unlock to perform a RADIO upgrade, but obviously a free SIM unlock was hard to resist, I also believe that the SIM unlock changed the radio version so i thought why not go to the latest!

I believe that you can simply perform a straight RADIO upgrade as sparkymodaco did do.

In fact i have just upgraded from 1.16 -> to 1.20 with no problems, although as you point out there r a couple of minutes where i was a little worried.

I did also read all pages on XDA forum and none of the NASTY problems were encountered by T Mobile UK users, so did felt more confident towards upgrade path....otherwise I would not have gone down it!

Upgrade method

0) Backup device

1) Enter BootLoader mode

2) Run 1.20 upgrade.....takes 20mins....it completes with an error.....you EXIT

3) Do not touch device.....Simply re-run the upgrade....it only takes 2 minutes the 2nd time (and looks like it is doing nothing)....and also errors with a different error.....but works

4) Soft-reset device (i had to do it twice - as was impaitent)..you will see the RADIO version appear bottom right of screen on the reset

Living 30 yds from a reasonable 3G signal it's so tempting... but...

Has anyone any information (or rumours) of any offical T-mobile ROM update releases?

Posted

Hmmmm.... quite tempted, lots of 3G round my way, might improve the 3G signal in my living room, seems to stranglely shield signals coming in.

Can anyone else confirm a better signal strength 3G or otherwise?
