Guest shawnobery Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I've tried everything - searched everywhere, but can not for the life of me work out how to get internet browsing via Wifi or ActiveSync to work on my lovely new O2 XDA IQ! The Wifi appears to connect OK - I can connect to my Netgear DG834G router OK and I get a valid IP Address (which I can Ping from other PCs on my network) but when I use Pocket IE, I can't get any internet access! The same happens when I connect to ActiveSync via USB (I have changed the PC ActiveSync Connection Settings to: "This computer is connected to The Internet"). In both cases GPRS doesn't work because the phone thinks it has a better connection available - this is good, but why won't it use these "better" connections!??? It just sits there with the "Locating..." for about 30 seconds and then gives "The page can not be displayed because the connection was lost. Please try again" I've never been able to get browsing via ActiveSync to work (on my original SPV, E200 or C500), but never thought it was too much of an issue, but now I really want the Wifi to work - to save all those email GPRS charges while at home. Could this be a Proxy issue? or DNS maybe? Has anyone got this to work? if so, what are your settings? I've hit a brick wall! :)
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Mine works over WiFi at home. I didn't set anything specifically - I just gave the IQ the WEP key and it worked. In PIE, under Menu, Tools, Options, Connections mine is set to "Auto detect" and the Select Network option is blank
Guest shawnobery Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 (edited) In PIE, under Menu, Tools, Options, Connections mine is set to "Auto detect" and the Select Network option is blank Mine is also set to "Auto detect" and the select network option was originally blank, but once you click it to see the options, you have to select one and then can't blank it out, so mine is now set to "The Internet" Could you please give me the rest of your settings? (in Settings - Connections - GRPS, Proxy & Wi-Fi) Does your's browse with "pass-thru" when connected by Active-sync? thanks Edited November 9, 2006 by shawnobery
Guest shawnobery Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Update: using MSN Messenger and HTTPMail work over Wifi! But browsing still doesn't.... any ideas?
Guest yrreP Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Update: using MSN Messenger and HTTPMail work over Wifi! But browsing still doesn't.... any ideas? Can you get to IP addresses? May be DNS as you mentioned?
Guest shawnobery Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 (edited) How am I supposed to "get to IP addresses"? HTTPMail and MSN Messenger work fine over Wifi (but not ActiveSync) so they must be working thru the O2 DNS somehow... The error I get when trying to browse with Wifi is: "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later." but when trying thru ActiveSync (USB) I get: "The page cannot be displayed because the connection was lost. Please try again" I've tried installing Opera Mini but that's a complete nightmare to use and doesn;t seem to work over Wifi anyway. Any ideas anyone??? PLEASE! Edited November 13, 2006 by shawnobery

Guest chucky.egg Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 I don't use ActiveSync at home (I only sync with a Hosted Exchange mailbox), so I can't answer that one for you. I've just changed routers, so my settings aren't the same any more. My router now has a WEP key, which I entered when I first connected the phone to the router. The router connects directly to the internet. Before you get into all this check your device's settings for using the different connections: Start, Settings, Connections, Menu, Advanced Internet connection: Automatic Work connection: Automatic WAP connection: Automatic Secure WAP connection: Automatic ...,Menu, Options Redial attempts: 1 Idle disconnect after: 1 minute My desktop connects to: The internet Start, Settings, Connections, GPRS Settings name: T-Mobile Connects to: The Internet Access point: general.t-mobile.uk Username: one2one Password: ("password", without the quotes, I think) Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0 Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0 IP Address: (blank) Start, Settings, Connections, WiFi Settings ...,WiFi Select router, Menu, Edit Network name: (name of your network, this is the SSID on your router) Network type: Internet Device-to-Device: Unticked ...,Menu, Network Key Authentication: Open Data Encryption: WEP Key automatically proviede: Unticked Network key: (shows *'s, should be the WEP key for your router) Key Index: (generally 1) ...,Menu, 802.1x Use IEEE 802.1x: Unticked EAP Type: PEAP To get your IP address: Start, Settings, Connections, WiFi Settings, Connection Status When you are connected your IP address should appear at the bottom of this page. Check that the address is not 0.0.0.0 (that normally means you failed to connect to the network, check your WEP key) and that it fits in with your routers IP settings. Hope that helps, but there are even more settings that could be affecting it
Guest shawnobery Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 You're not going to believe this.... I think it's been working all along! The problem was with my PIE home page - the O2 pda site http://pda.o2.co.uk. It seems to be unreachable from anything other than an O2 phone over GPRS. I can browse any other website over Wifi - and it's dam FAST!!! Oh well, if nothing else this is a "be aware of" to all other O2 XDA IQ owners....
