Guest duke_stix Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I recently purchased a 'MyMemory 2GB 133X Pro Mini Sd' Memory card from 'MyMemory' which was received last week. Since using the memory card in 2 different handsets and a computer memory card reader the following issues have occurred: 1) When copying data to the Memory Card, transfer is EXTREMELY slow. nowhere near the quoted '133X' even when using a USB2 memory card reader. 2) After copying data to the memory card and placing it into my handset, i receive a message asking me to format the memory card to make it useable with my handset (a I-Mate SP5) 3) after formatting the card in my handset, placing the card into the memory card reader, copying my data across and putting the card BACK into my handset the card appears to function as normal. After turning the handset off and then on again i receive the format memory card error again. this time i did not choose to format the memory card. instead i removed the card, placed it into my card reader and opened up the folder within Windows XP (SP2) windows told me that the size of the memory card was 0bytes. If I choose to format the card in windows, the maximum size it allows me is 986mb using Fat32, no other options are available. even after attempting to format, i receive an error stating windows could not format the card. the card readers i have used are two different card readers, one built into my Dell laptop, the other a Belkin branded USB2 memory card reader. Needless to say I am NOT happy with this. what could this be? dodgy card or my phone playing up?
Guest Confucious Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Could be the card readers are not compatable with cards >1Gb - most aren't - at leats I think the limit is 1Gb not 2 - they certainly wouldn't work with my 4Gb (SD) card and the fact it will only format 1Gb sugests that is the limit. I would sugest paying MobyMemory £5.99 (I think) for one of their card readers which are compatable (very few are) and trying that. I could be wrong but maybe worth a try.
Guest Dumela Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Hmm I too have pretty much the same issue happen to me today with my Non branded 2gb card I got off fleabay. I put card in phone. Said it needed to format it. Did this ok. But card in reader to speed up transfer (may not have been needed) anyway, said card was not formatted. Formatted it as FAT and half of the capacity disappeared. Put it back in phone. Phone would not see it at all. Put back in computer. Needed formatting again, this time would not complete format. Formatted in phone again... it goes on and on. Basically i'm about to send it back to seller, but will feel a prat if it's my reader causing the problem. I have a DELL desktop with in built card reader. Is there any other evidence to state that some card readers cannot support cards greater then 2gb? Is this to do with single layer and multilayer cards? Should I be formating as FAT or FAT32? Help?
Guest Confucious Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 It is to do with card size - you need a card reader capable of reading large cards - simple.
