Orange SPV M600 Turns itself off.

Hello, I should first say I have tried to search for other people with the same problem, but didn't get any results back.

I have an Orange SPV M600 which I was very happy with. Until about a month ago when it would turn itself off at random intervals. So I contacted orange support and they sent out a new battery, however the problem wasn't solved. So I called them again and they sent a new phone (I kept the battery).

So now I have a new phone and the problem STILL exists.

The only thing I can think of now is that it is the software I'm installing on the device, is this possible?

I installed...

Resco Explorer

Resco Photo Viewer

Resco Keyboard

vBar

Pocket Mini Golf 2

I have since done a hard reset and not installed anything (only brought my contacts in) so far (I only did this a few hours ago) it hasn't turned off, could any of the above programs cause this behaviour?

Thanks in advance.

dude,

can you be more specific about the switch offs,

also, when you say "switches off" do you mean a soft reset??

Regards.

Thanks for the responses.

inviz_ When I press the power button to 'wake it up' from turning the screen off it doesn't activate the screen, so I press the button again and it starts booting up with the orange logo and all the version numbers. I'm not sure if a soft reset means it powers down and up again or just down and stays off!

JonW, thanks for the tip on vBar but i'm now not so sure its the software, unless installed software can cause permanent damage. Or does a hard re-set actually erase everything and reset it EXACTLY as it was when it was delivered?

As I said in my first post, i performed a hard re-set (From the system menu) this morning and only brought my contacts back in and I just got home from work and it has switched off. In fact this time it won't even switch on, this has happened before and the only way to switch it back on it so plug into the mains charger, which I have left at work on a Friday grrrrr. But when I left work the battery was around the 80 - 90% mark.

The switch offs do seem to occur more when I'm on the move, but the battery has a good connection it doesn't move about or anything like that.

It is unlikely that it is a design fault as I can find no other people reporting the same behavior.

I really like this phone, but its starting to become annoying.

Update.

I have had another idea on this problem. Could it perhaps be my memory card that is causing the problem. It is one of the few common parts between the first phone and the 2nd one I have now. The memory card is a 1GB SD Kingston. Numbers on the back are:

30661-001.A0ILF

2408680

SK4112-946.A0ILF

I'm going to remove the card for the next couple of days to see if the turn-offs stop.

Has anyone else encountered strange behaviour that was caused by memory cards?

Thanks for your reply yorgl, could you explain a little more what you mean by

"it happens troubles with wlan device and messaging"

Could you explain the connection between the memory card and the Wireless networking?

I do install ALL programs to the memory card as the M600 doesn't have much internal memory.

Thanks again.

Don't put anything on the memory card that the device needs to access when in standby - such as mail attachments if the device is set to collect mail.

This was a problem with the JAMin original rom. The battery saving feature of the SD card was enabled and this caused the device to hang when it turned the SD card off. They disabled or tweaked the battery saving feature in the later rom and it cured it. I didnt think it affected Orange Prophets though.
