ActiveSync won't work -Corporate Firewall Blocks Port 990

I am trying to sync (vario ii) using activesync 4.2

However, we have McAfee Desktop firewall at work. I do not have access to add any ports or exceptions. I called IT and they won't do it either. Is there a workaround?

Not that i am aware of.

We had real problems getting it to work at all because activesync 4 creates a seperate network connection, so firewalls see it as outside your open corporate network and it's therefore blocked.

Even opening the ms recommended ports didnt work.

We had to give the new AS connection a dns suffix and on the f/w specify the new suffix as part of the open corporate network.

I'm having real problems trying to get my Vario to sync with my work PC. I think something was automatically updated on my work machine and everything's stopped working. Where do I uncheck the advanced connectivity option? Is this something on the Vario or on my machine?

Thanks for the reply. Sadly there isn't a USB to PC connection option in Connections. I'll have to find another way

What you're looking for is in the Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC... Disable the checkbox and the device will fall back to using the older RNDIS method of connecting. Slower, but more reliable in unusual connection situations.

Under Settings -> Connections -> I can see Beam, Bluetooth, Connections, CSD Line Type, GPRS Setting, Network Cards and Wireless LAN. I had a look in Connections but can't see anything relating to USB connections

Google for "usb killer smartphone france" It enables you to select RNDIS or USB connection... It may work on the Hermes and it may solve your particular problem...

Every time I try this, I get the following error message: 'Failed to disable RNDIS to use Serial'

This happens regardless of whether the phone is connected via USB at the time or not.

Has anyone else seen this? Is there anything I can do about it?

I got round the issue of connecting to my Work PC by using bluetooth activesync, until recently and now I can't get Activesync Profile to show up again for bluetooth.

So I have reverted to logging in, disabling the coporate network connection, plugging in phone it then connects to activesync as the PC is in local mode and then once it's connected successfully I re-enable the corporate network connection.

If your allowed or can do that this sort of thing (different corporations, different rules) then give it ago might work for you.

There are activesync registry settings that you can designate the address the device connects over, maybe its possible to change the port to something that it will allow.

eg.

client address and server address. havent tested it with ports. might work?
