Guest bigmike7801 Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Hello, I am new to the SmartPhone community and have had mine for about a week. I purchased a 2GB San Disk mini sd today and have used Active Sync 4.2 to transfer music files from Windows Media Player 10 onto the card while it is in the phone. When I try to play a song that is on the card Windows Freezes up and the only way to unfreeze it is to turn off the phone if I can or take the battery out. If however I transfer the song from the card to a folder like mymusic that already came on the phone, then it plays just fine. Does anybody know if this is a normal thing or if there is anything I can do to prevent this? I can't tranfer all of my music to the My Music folder because it has limited storage. Any help is appreciated. Thanks - Mike
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Welcome to the site :) What Smartphone do you have? It's not normal for a Sandisk card to give problems but it may be worth trying a different smaller card to see if the problem still happens. Do other applications etc work ok with your storage card?
Guest bigmike7801 Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 I have a cingular 2125. I haven't tried any other applications yet. Was trying to figure this out all day and never had a chance too.
Guest bigdogs Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 Hi Bigmike - and Everyone!!! (GREAT forum!) Almost the same thing has just happened with me - (worryingly with a 2gb Sandisk - but i dont think its that.. other programs & File Manager see the card ok) Actually synched the disk with wm10 yesterday, and it played fine - today - try to 'update library' and it always goes through the same sequence: - it goes through "Searching for files" - and finds the 40 files on the storage card - then on the next 'Adding files..." screen, it sticks midway for a couple of mins before 'adding 6 files' - which are the music files on My Device (ie on the phone, not the card) Just cant get Windows Media player to 'find' the storage card - Click on 'my library' and it only finds "My Device" Yet... If I click on "Open File..." in Windows Media Player, it can see the 'storage card' perfectly fine!!! - all the files are there, and I can open individual music tracks Plus... File manager 'sees' everything on the Storage Card ok So, - my problem is - I cant get 'Update Library' to find anything from the storage card. - The only thing I've done today is to delete a music file in 'My Music/My Device' from File Manager (but dont understand how this could affect recognising files in 'Storage Card') and installed a Freedom bluetooth keyboard onto My Device Can anyone help? Neil PS - Was playing music from storage card on Windows Media Player fine for a day - Ive tried removing the storage card, reinserting, turning the phone off and on again, and a soft reset all in different combinations - but the same sequence occurs when 'Update Library' is launched - I've tried re-synching WM10 with the device - seemed to load files ok, but also did not 'see' any music on the device - Every other program & File Manager 'sees' the Storage Card without a problem - I've only had the phone for 5 days, so using it pretty much out of the box. - It's a Vario II
Guest bigdogs Posted December 10, 2006 Report Posted December 10, 2006 (edited) OK Mike - hope you're still around I found a solution HERE: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...5b-3990a0ed2c81 And got to it by this: - WM10 seems to allow me to synch corrupt music tracks, or tracks with file extensions it doesn't support (thanks Microsoft!) - I removed these by deleting the 'music' folder WM10 had created on my Storage Card, AND by re-synching with just one track that I knew it would definitely play (which created a brand new 'Music' folder) BUT this didnt work, Update Files still got 'stuck' during "Adding Files..." If you delete the folder listed in the thread linked above, - it will fix the sticking problem! Some correspondents on the thread suggest formatting the Storage Card as a solution, but I didn't have to do that - I just made sure I had supported/un-corrupted tracks and deleted the folder on the Storage Card Hope this helps! Neil PS - Hey does anyone know the best way to re-format a storage card? Just wondering. PPS I think I might just go back to transferring music tracks to the 'My Music' folder on the storage card - much safer!!! Edited December 10, 2006 by bigdogs
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Re-formatting the car can be done by using SP Task Manager from www.binarys.com.
