Guest Digiboy Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Hi All Anyone successfully using Abbey National e-banking on their phone in the UK? Love to know how to set the correct security levels if it's possible at all using either WAP or Internet banking access. Cheers :?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 I use First direct and their site uses java So a real disapointment as I would love to use IE on my phone to do my banking ;)
Guest kernowmagic Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 Well i know if you are using wap you have to select a secure connection but i do not know how to do this on the spv as i dont even know how to get the wap to work on it.
Guest Firaas Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 Most e-banking services now require specific browsers (IE or Netscape), and/or use frames. This prevents me from using Natwest - but Orange has some new stuff coming shortly, which may resolve these problems...
Guest Digiboy Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Abbey National tell me they only support a very limited number of phones - and certainly haven't moved to include access for anything as funky as an SPV yet! Ah well.
Guest cbcox Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 It doesn't work with the Royal Bank of Scotland's Digital Banking either, but then again neither do Mozilla or Opera, hence I have to retain IE6 on my PC. It's about time the banks realised that there are more than two browsers on the market.
Guest Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 It doesn't work on HSBC page either as it uses frames. It's even worse as thats what I work on in my job ;)
Guest Rob.P Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 The Open Plan system orginally used by the Woolwich is the same, uses frames and they only support certain phones (mostly Nokia's with 1 ericsson). They had better hurry up and sort it out with a new generation of phones round the corner, their mobile banking will become useless as nobodies phones would be able to use the sites.
Guest dhood Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 The Barlclays ibank service seems to work fine. It's a bit tricky to use as it's designed to work with a pc browser but it does work.
Guest Rob.P Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 I was able to get my old WAP settings off my Nokia, although I'm still unable to get a connection, I don't think I putting the info in the right place. Anyone rekon they can suss it out for me? homepage: http://wap.openplan.co.uk/logon.asp?ID=*********** dial up number: +448717111323 IP address: 194.74.197.103 username: [email protected] connection type: continuous connection security: on bearer: data authentication type: normal data call type: ISDN data call speed: 9600
Guest ragegames Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 All I'd ahve thought we need is the ability to use the WAP banking at least, by disabling the IE browser. Unfortunately WEBWAPSELECT doesnt make the Abbey site work either! P
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 I use First direct and their site uses java  So a real disapointment as I would love to use IE on my phone to do my banking  Me too, this would really make my SPV even more useful - the bank I use, DanskeBank, have a WAP bank but this is the 21st. century and I can't be havin' with WAP : )
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Halifax-online works fine
Guest Firaas Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Halifax-online works fine :lol:Yeah but Halifax sucks... and don't reply with "Who gives you extra?" ;) Natwest use frames, so their service won't work on the SPV. As per my post above, Orange will be working with Natwest in order to release something which should work with all phones via WAP - no details about whether or not there'll be an SPV specific interface, so watch the space. At the moment, the service they're working on already includes the following banks: Abbey National (UK) Bank of Scotland (UK) Barclays (UK) cahoot (UK) Citibank Direct Access (UK) Egg Banking (UK) First Direct (UK) - Banking Halifax Online (UK) HSBC Bank (UK) Lloyds TSB (UK) Nationwide Building Society (UK) smile (UK) The Royal Bank of Scotland (UK) Which isn't bad eh?
Guest redwatch Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 The Nationwide works a treat. They are the best bank to be with, on-line or otherwise  .
Guest glynton Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 I use Barclays and have made numerous transactions using my phone's browser. Was so chuffed when it worked! Glynton
Guest Rob.P Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 If Barclays works on yours then Woolwich should work on mine as they bought their online banking system off Woolwich which is why they now own Woolwich. I take it you are using WAP and not the normal internet online banking?
Guest glynton Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Nope... i'm using the internet connection, GPRS.
Guest Azalar Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 At the moment, the service they're working on already includes the following banks: Which isn't bad eh? What makes you think it works with Smile? Smile uses Java also so definately doesnt work on the Spv Also it opens a new window, something else the Spv doesnt do.
Guest Firaas Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 What makes you think it works with Smile? Smile uses Java also so definately doesnt work on the Spv It doesn't use Smile directly, it accesses Smile's services presumably from a backend connection of some sort. Not sure of any release dates yet...
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 First Direct does not work  unless they made some drastic changes recently
Guest fraser Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Are there any updates to E-banking sites that work on the Smartphone Pocket IE browser? I'm about to switch banks & I'd like to choose one that was at least compatible, but preferably optimied for mobile browsers. From the previous posts, I take it that the following work: Halifax Nationwide Barclays Any others?
