Guest Sputter Out Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Hi, I've got a Vodafone v1240 running TomTom Mobile 5.20 from a 2 GB MiniSD - it works fine. The unit itself has had a few problems with the bluetooth amongst other things, so I got our supplier to send me out a warranty replacement unit, I've got both units now and am in the process of transferring all my stuff across - most of it's on the miniSD, so no problem. BUT when I've moved the card across to the new phone, TomTom stops playing. All that happens (after the warnings about un-signed software) is it gets to the green legal note screen then hangs. The phone then needs a reboot. If I put the card back into the old phone, then everything's fine. I can't work this out as there seems to be NO difference between the two units. Am I missing a registry setting or something? If anyone has any ideas I'd be really grateful. Cheers, Sputter.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 You will need to contact TomTom and request a new activation code for the new phone. You may need to provide proof that this is a warranty replacement as TomTom are cautious in issuing codes as there are so many dodgy versions about.
Guest Sputter Out Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Thanks for replying. It doesn't ask for activation, it just hangs, will it need re-installing from fresh then re-activating? Cheers
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 I would remove all traces of TomTom from the phone then insert the card in the phone and on a reboot the phone should see the 2577 folder on the card and install the files located there. You could always wipe the miniSD card and copy the files over from the TomTom SD card again to ensure you have all the files you need. Activation is normally asked for at the stage where you decide what maps to use.
Guest Sputter Out Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 I'll give it a go and call TomTom. Thanks for all your help. Cheers, Sputter
Guest waxpickle Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 If moving TomTom, You also need to move across the files in \Storage\My Documents\TomTom, as well as all the files on the storage card. If you dont copy \Storage\My Documents\TomTom to the new phone, TomTom will crash.
Guest mrkipling Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 I had a similar problem after a recent re-flash of my SP5, It would crash after about 1-2 mins after TomTom starting up. Trying to avoid the inevitable of having to contact TomTom customer support, I de-certed my phone as per the instructions here and found by chance that this sorted the problem (not sure why though?) . Hope this helps you.

Guest waxpickle Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 mrkipling : THANK YOU. Since upgrading to an SP5 from a SP3i, TomTom has been nothing but a headache. It was crashing every few minutes & would lock up if I didnt manually turn bluetooth on first. After running the decert application, TomTom now doesnt crash and turns on bluetooth automatically! It was driving me round the bend, and was even considering downgrading so I could use this great GPS software. THANKS AGAIN! :)

If you're moving the SD card from one phone to another then CurrentMap.dat must be in \Storage\My Documents\TomTom in the main phone memory *not* on the SD card otherwise it will hang at the green "I agree" screen. Aprt from that one file everything else will run from the SD card. Edited March 7, 2007 by snowgoose
