External antenna connector type

Received my T-mobile Vario II today. Great bit of kit as far as I can tell so far.

However, there's one slight hitch - not a single bar of signal where I am. :)

I've decided to try using a directional yagi antenna in the roof. Does anyone know the name of the connector on the Hermes/Vario? If you look on the back of the phone, it's under the rubber grommet in the top-left.

If all this doesn't work and I still can't get a signal, does anyone know how long I have to send it back to T-mobile. Isn't there a statutory 30 day cooling off period?

Cheers

It's 7 days if bought over the internet. If you bought it instore there technically isn't one, but most store managers are fairly flexible if you contact them - mine offered 14 days

This will connect to aerials: http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?partner=modaco&i=139772

Brilliant - thanks.

Tried to purchase in-store but it was just too busy so came home and took the armchair option :)

Have you had a look at the T-Mobile coverage maps to see what it suggests you should get?

Oh - and I assume you've tried the phone elsewhere just in case the radio isn't working out of the box?

I should get two bars... not great but good enough I'd have thought.

I knew the radio was working to some extent, as I can see all the local networks including T-mobile using manual network selection. So I drove into Reading town centre to try it out and still no joy. Phoned T-mobile customer services and after going through their queuing system twice, it turns out they're having a problem with new SIM card registrations process and it'll take up to 72 hours to fix. :)

I was a bit nervous leaving Vodafone after many years... this hasn't helped calm my nerves!

My experience with T-Mobile CS so far has been pretty good, but then I've had no major problems and that's when you normally find out. Good luck.

cheaper, more signal.....etc

have had no problems with the Tmob CS as yet although there menu call routing does lose you on occasion.

Has anyone tried this with some sort of external aerial, how is it?

I'm really interested to see how it would work on a holiday, see if I can hop on to some far away wifi networks?

anyone on this, surely wifi is a real killer feature on the vario (as well as a battery killer), extending the range of the thing must be a good idea. But has anyone used external antenna?

Part of my reason for asking is that I'm in france next week and I don't fancy using 3G at all - I heard from a bloke in the t-mobile shop that the data charges when roaming are massive, I plan to turn the phone function off altogether and use wifi instead where possible.
