Idiots guide to Wi-Fi connection?

I'm struggling here. New Vario II and I've no idea how to connect to my wireless router or my laptop.

Gone to the Comm Mnager and the W-Fi logo is highlighted, but the next step in the manual talks about window that should appear offering a choice of the available connections. That window never appears.

The logo in the top toolbar continually shows the 2 moving arrows. But beyond that I am completely lost. The T-Mobile manula is utterly useless.

Can somebody plesae help ?

Maybe completely turn off the wireless on the device, and then turn it back on. This should promt the scanning of networks, and then show any available SSID's.

Alternatively set Performance to best Signal (or whatever it's called!), as opposed to Best Battery

Start > Settings > Connections tab > WLAN (?) > Performance tab (?)

It's somewhere in there!

Woah! Hold on guys.

When you are connecting to a wifi network, before you change or muck about with any settings on your device, make sure that the access point is actually broadcasting its SSID.

I have seen loads of people get lost and confused with their device connection settings when it was the access point that wasn't broadcasting anyway.

The first step is to make sure that the access point's SSID broadcast is enabled. You do this by logging in to the Access point's control panel on a pc that is connected to it (either wirelessly or via cable). Depending on the make, you usually just enter the local IP address of the access point. Once in, go to the wireless settings and make sure that SSID broadcast is on - then when you switch wireless on on your device, it should pop up a window asking if you want to connect.

If this prompts you to connect, you will then potentially have to deal with any security settings on the access point (ie WEP/WPA encryption - which requires you to enter a key, and MAC address filtering - where you have to put the unique MAC address of your device's wifi card in to the allowed list on the access point).
