Good afternoon to you all.

I would first just like to say what a fantastic forum, alrady found loads of hints and tips to help me on my journey.

Ok straight to the point im stuck!!

i have just bought a Orange M3100, I already have TomTom 5 (legit copy) and have just purchased a Qstarz BTQ810 gps receiver, but I cannot get it working!

I have read other posts on here but they dont help me!

I have paired the two devices sucessfully. But cant get the tomtom to see it!

In BT settings(m3100) I have created a new outgoing port but can only assign it to 0,2,4

In the TomTom software I only have choices of Com3, Com7, RIL on Com6 S2410 IRDA

Does anyone know where I am going wrong, all help gratefully received.

Go to bluetooth settings -> COM Ports

Select New Outgoing port

Assign the serial port to a COM number (I am using COM0)

then try and connect the device up.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem.

I have a brand new M3100 and a brand new copy of Tom Tom 6.

I have paired with the BT GPS receiver but cannot asign to com 7 or 3.

You say you are using COM0, but then how can you select com 0 in TOM TOM. As Woodze said it only lists Com3, Com7, RIL on Com6 S2410 IRDA.

So if I have it set to Com0 then TOM TOM just says "No GPS Device"

Ah ha, I have solved the problem.

I was trying to pair the blue tooth GPS unit while indoors. I realise that it would not be able to get a gps signal but didn't think that would matter. (I didn't want to go and stand in the garden for 15 mins to set it all up)

However yesterday I tried again whilst walking outside so the GPS unit was flashing indicating (on my particular model) it had a fix.

This time the COM0 port (which is what I has set as my outgoing port for my bt gps) appeared in my list of ports in TOM TOM.

I think the reason TOMTOM only shows Com3, Com7, RIL on Com6 S2410 IRDA is because those are the ones which are in use. Once the gps unit is streaming the gps fix into com 0, tom tom sees this too.

This would also explain why I could not select com3 or com7 for my bt gps as i thought I had to, it was because these were already in use by some other part of the phone.

So to summarise

1) Go to bluetooth settings -> COM Ports

2) Select New Outgoing port

3) Assign the serial port to a COM number (I am using COM0)

4) MAKE SURE YOU ARE OUTSIDE AND YOUR BT GPS UNIT HAS A FIX

5) Run Tom Tom, Com0 should appear in your list

Happy navigating.

Please post a reply if this solves your problem
