Hi All

Wondered if i could get a little advice

i've had a bit of a look around the site and although ive found some really usefull stuff i can't find

a solution to my problem

when using the phone strange things happen for example when i press the music button it flicks to the player screen for a split second but then flicks back to the home screen it takes 5 or 6 attempts before it stays on the media screen. When im typing a message it will just randomly flick of the text page to almost any other screen . it also seems to lock itself at will when being used. When you move the toggle stick to the left 9 times out of 10 it just goues back to the home screen .On the whole pressing any key is a bit lottery as to where you will end up.

So far i have done what i think is called a hard rest (press 2 soft buttons and power off) which set it to the defaults but still has the problem.Although i have tried this since and now it won't reset just powers the phone off

some one has told me it sounds like the rom is corrupt (noot sure)

Is it possable to re format something and reinstall the software like you can on a pc hard drive

Sorry this post is a bit longwinded but the more info the better

Thanks in advance

Rob

Ps it's not me this computer can't spell

Think I’ve found the problem and a little embarrassing it is too. It is nothing to do with the software but a problem with one of the buttons.

When you go anywhere near the red end call button it goes back to the home screen .

The problem is that it does it almost when you just look at it. It just takes the slightest touch or just brushing your finger verry gently over it causes it to operate its function..

The button actually feels ok and when you press it properly it feels like the other buttons.

I was going to take the case of and found a guide in the forums for doing this but it says that it should have size 6 t screws but they are smaller than that ,anyone know what size (I think maybe 4)

Tryed blowing are through the side of the case but no difference.

does anyone else know of a keypad fault / fix

Cheers

some folk have had keypad problems with this phone. i have tried using a vacuum cleaner hose (place phone in plastic bag, tape the bag to the vacuum hose) & vacuum out any dust quite forcefully. if it was dust i'm sure this may have done the trick, but now i'm thinking it may just be a bug in the phone where certain keys fail to respond.

i'd advise against opening it yourself & get it replaced in warranty, or otherwise, pay for repair or (!) insurance claim :) 'cos these C550's are not easy to fix yourself.
