Guest jimmmy Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 Hello, Im looking at getting my first phone of this type as Ive finally got a need for a PDA. Im looking at T-Mob as I need internet access a lot as two of my main needs are web based. My tasks are: Sat Nav SSH to my linux servers RDP to 2k3 servers Citrix access to my remote access network Along with i guess normal application such as contacts, diary web browsing. Im liking the look and size of the compact III but lack of fast internet and 200Mhz ProCo is my concern. Lack of Qwerty isnt bothering me as Ill use TenGo most likely. So do I need the extra size, qwert, weight and initial outlay of the Vario? Cheers

The HTC Trinity looks good if you don't like the Vario II, but when (if) T-Mobile will release it is unknown...

Wifi would be nice but looking at Pauls thread its not going well at getting it going on the T mob phones. That would be the clincher if it worked... decisions decisions....

Guest echo3 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 So do I need the extra size, qwert, weight and initial outlay of the Vario? Cheers I'd be interested in your conclusions. I was thinking my next gadget would be satnav for the car, and while researching it came accross PocketPC phones. I don't currently use a PDA (a Psion 5mx was my last one! now I use a filofax the size of a brick, a Sony K700i phone and a Sony Hi-MD MiniDisc player for mp3s (yes - really). I love the idea of a phone that does it all (and more). After a bit of research I've come up the same shortlist, although I'm also considering the Orange SPV M600. I still can't decide about the integrated GPS though - great in some ways, but also an additional battery drain I don't need outside of the car. The Orange SPV M600 has Wi-Fi, handy for me at home as I have a linux fileserver/internet router in the loft, but how much is the data going to cost me on Orange (T-mobile offers unlimited data for £7.50 per month). The compact III is the cheapest by far at £39.99 plus a £25 a month contract (plus the £7.50 a month unlimited data). An xtra £68.75 for tom tom 6 makes software it a value and truly compact proposition (initial outlay of £108.74, then £32.50 a month) The Vario II comes in at £209.99 for the same contract bundled with Copilot from T-mobile, or £217.77 with tom tom 6 and GPS receiver. The Orange SPV on racoon 25 is £99.99, but comes is at £227.77 once I've bought the tom tom 6 GPS kit. decisions, decisions....
