Were I to buy a sim-free Treo 700 in the US and bring it over to the UK, would I be able to plug in a sim from a UK provider...? It looks to operate on the right frequencies but I've no idea if there would be anything else in the way preventing the device from working.

Palm don't seem too enthusiastic about selling the 700 here in the UK....

if you buy the 700w unlocked from the USA, there's no reason why your UK GSM sim shouldn't work in it.

AFAIK there's two versions - the GSM one is yet to be released I think.. or it was delayed because whichever CDMA network bought the rights to the 700w in the first place had the exclusivity?

I could be wrong..

Right... so better avoid it for the moment then. I guess if I'm over in the US I could try a UK SIM in a 700 if I find one somewhere - if it's unlocked.

thanks chaps.

It won't work because CDMA phones in the U.S. don't have a SIM card slot. The CDMA phones are provided by the relevant network and locked into the phone number they give you. You would need a GSM phone to be able to use it.

Verizon definitely had an exclusive on the 700w, but it wasn't specified how long that was for. Chances are there will be more Treos this year, but Palm never announce details before they release.

Palm were one of the sponsors of Microsoft?s MEDC in Europe, this is a huge expenditure for a company who doesn?t sell Microsoft powered devices in Europe ? I wouldn?t be to shocked if we see Windows Mobile devices in Europe very soon

I would like to see them on WM devices in Europe. When I met the CEO at the Treo 600 launch she is behind the devices 100% and knows her stuff.

Lets hope the same egarness comes over with windows devices.
