Debranding W800i

Just idle curiosity really. Is it worth getting a W800i debranded? Would be nice to go without the operator text on the homescreen, but I'm wary of invalidating the warranty/care cover on my phone if I do so.

Also, does it really require a specialist cable to do, or can the cable that came in the box be used?

I had no idea they were branding W800s!

The ones we used to sell at Orange were completely generic, as god intended.

What network do you have it on? I know its possible to debrand K700/K750s using a service cable and a firmware flashing service available on the intarweb.

It's on Orange, so possibly not much is needed... know of any way to disable/remove the Operator name at the top, though? And/or change the walkman button to shortcut to something else...

Sorry to break it to you mate, but thats not branding. That's the way the phone was made!

as far as I know the operator logo cannot be removed by any means at all, no flashing, nothing.. as its been a standard SE feature since the dawn of time.

As for the walkman button, I'm afraid its not like the one of the K750 where you can assign shortcut tasks etc..

its there because you purchased a walkman phone, and so they want to make it easy for you to use it as just that!

Sorry I can't be of more assistance.. but hey, its not a bad phone! (even if I did keep mine for just 2 weeks lol)

No probs, thanks for answering :) To be honest I'm a bit annoyed; not due to the phone but the fact I just signed an 18 month contract with them again when now I want to move to T-Mob. :/ Those Flext plans are far too tempting.

Sell the phone and hope you make enough to cover your tariff for the next 18 months and switch to T-Mob?

I think you should be able to change the shortcut by goin into settings then probably there may be an option called shortcut

My m8 had an 18month contract and he cud cancel his after 3months apparently if you ask u neva no!

Technically I could cancel it now, I'd just have to pay 16-17 months worth of tariff fees. And I can't afford that... and I doubt I could sell the phone for ?300 plus?
