Guest nickcornaglia Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 You may have seen a front page MoDaCo article about Geocaching. CLICK HERE TO READ. Briefly, Geocaching is a worldwide, on-going adventure game where individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world, post GPS coordinates and other hints leading you to the location where you then try to find the cache. Click here for a more detailed explanation: Geocaching.com A few members had mentioned that, although there are a few PocketPC applications that focus on Geocaching, there aren't really any good Smartphone Geocaching-Specific applications. Even more, there are no all-in-one applications that include GPS, live cache finding, and geocaching.com integration. Let's see if we could change that.... Which features would you like to see in a geocaching application? I'll start it off. Reply with your suggestions and I'll add them to the list in this post. (Post made sticky for a bit).Wishlist: 001) Option #1 - Ability to pull local area cache information from Geocaching.com 002) Option #2 - Ability to import GPX/LOC files downloaded from Geocaching.com 003) Ability to use internal or external GPS 004) alert to nearby caches (distance, direction, cache name) 005) Ability to read Cache details 006) Ability to log cache found/not found on gc.com including notes 007) Ability to upload photos 008) Ability to log route locally and online (locally - Google Earth format) 009) alert to other nearby geocachers 010) Smartphone and PPC compatible 011) Price: CHEAP!

Guest splinter98 Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 open source would be nice, allows us devs to modify for personal needs :) + able to use maps with a pointer to show you where you are. - be able to download map from google or gpsvisualizer.com + able to generate a 'blank map' and place waypoints on this map. + maps able to show the route you've travelled + able to decode hints off geocaching website + able to upload logs to geocaching website.
Guest cuchulain Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 Just completed my first Geocache , with my trusty C600 and Route 66 mouse (Sirfstar3). I used Microsoft Autoroute on the home PC , created a pushpin on the map where the loc co-ordinates where, then exported the map as a pocket streets map. Loaded Microsoft pocket streets on the smartphone , added the map with the pushpin , and away I went ! It worked like a charm , except for one niggle , Pocket streets does not force the backlight to stay on , so you will need to continually move your joystick. Next time I'm going to try FPS dash and its waypoint tool and see if that works better. All in all great day out , and the c600 worked like a charm Cuchulain
Guest ellams Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 (edited) I'm new to these forums, But I just though't I'd ask if anyone is actually actively developing any Geocaching software for Mobile Phones with some of the features asked for in this forum. The reason being that I am a Pocket PC/Palm/Mobile Phone developer myself and have noticed a lack of this type of software specifically for Geocaching, Which I have just started doing with my family. Guest nickcornaglia Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Go for it! Especially if you could make one for the SMARTPHONE OS and link data from geocaching.com THAANKS...I look forward to your efforts!
Guest nickcornaglia Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 I'll bump this old thread up as I'm still looking for the ideal solution for geocacing on the smartphone.
Guest Magnetic_dud Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 i think that one of these is good: http://vitotechnology.com/en/products/smtnavigation.html
Guest nickcornaglia Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Thats not really a Geocaching app proper. But it is handy when used for Geocaching. By Geocaching app, I meant one that interacts with Geocaching.com
Guest old bm Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 What's the latest news on caching with a blackjack 2?
Guest gardndj Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 What's the latest news on caching with a blackjack 2? CacheMate has worked fine for me. $10 gets you a pretty good cache manager with GPS support and the ability to export to Google Maps and Garmin Mobile, among others. I've been using it on my Q9H for a couple months now. http://www.smittyware.com/wmsp/cachemate/
