3G/UMTS and EDGE switching

Is there a quick way to switch between 3G and EDGE? Considering how crappy the battery life is on UMTS, I'd like to have the phone be on EDGE, and when I truly need the extra speed I can just hit a button and jump on UMTS.

Is it possible? A quick program which changes the settings would be awesome...

Have you tried going

Start>Settings>Phone>Band

And then Selecting GSM from the top drop down menu

I was looking for a program to do this which i can assign to a button or have in my program list that will do that for me. If i have to manually do it, it defeats the purpose.

Either way, i found Skschema and you can write a script to do that for you. A user of another board already wrote one for the universal, but it works for the hermes also. I have enclosed it for anyone that wants to use it, but it's all of the other guy's work (just wanted to give credit to the other person).

Found something like what you were looking for based on those scripts. It's an app that lives in the tray on your ppc next to the comm man and battery icons, it allows switching between Auto/GSM/UMTS :)

Hope you find it useful :D
