Just installed a network hard disk, a Freecom Storage Gateway. I have backed up all important files from my PCs and laptop onto this. I have found that I can access the network disk via WiFi on the SP5, and download any file to the phone. However it does seem to download to the default 'My Documents' folder on the phone so size is limited. Anyone know how to change this default location to the storage card?

Anyway, you can browse the disk as if you are browsing it on a PC via an internet browser. Once your password is entered, all the contents of the disk are available, although only as written details, no thumbnails for pictures. A file can be selected and is then downloaded via WiFi. I believe this can be done even over GPRS as the disk can act as a FTP server. It also acts as a print server, but I dont think the phone can actually print directlywithout the relavent driver.

do you browse the disk via internet explorer? if so, then when you choose to download a file just select menu or options(i don't remember exactly) and you'll be able to download it to storage card\my documents\ :)

cant find that option. I thought it would require a registry tweak. Shame you cant stream mp3s like on a PPC, or save files back onto the drive.

It asks you "Download the xKB file 'file.ext'?

the left softkey is labelled Yes, the right one is labelled Menu

Choose Menu->Save As->Storage Card

Shame you cant stream mp3s like on a PPC

Open TCPMP,

go File->Open File...->Options->Enter URL

type the address of your NAS

once you've browsed to the mp3 (or wmv, avi, etc.) it will be streamed

I managed to get this to work to standard XP running an FTP server via the in-built IE and with a URL of ftp://server_ip

Sadly it will only login as "anonymous/guest" and will not accept the ftp://user:pass@server_ip but it's good to be able to shuffle files easily without a sync cable. The right soft-key and save-as is a bit hidden, I recalled reading this thread, otherwise I'd never have spotted it!!
