Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 I really want a Wii before Christmas (yeah, yeah, save the jokes...) Anyone know where I might be able to get one? P
Guest tsutton Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 Before buying it, check this out first. :) http://wiihaveaproblem.com
Guest Samsonite Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 BBC news report today that 4million worldwide need new straps!!!
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 I still want one... i'm confident I have enough self control NOT to destroy the TV. Besides, we need a new one anyway :) I'm guessing the chances of me getting one at retail price is pretty low before xmas! P
Guest M1TNT Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 Before buying it, check this out first. :) http://wiihaveaproblem.com Wii have a problem is a fab site - just can not believe that common sense does not prevale! I have seen some mods for the wii strap problems like using fishing line to make it stronger - I thought the straps were made of nylon - surely they would be strong - guess not. Not a big games player my self but I do want one too - hell at that price why not - keep me happy till the PS3 is out !
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 For me it's 360 for hardcore gaming, Wii for family entertainment... P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 The amount of consoles being sold at ridiculous prices on eBay hacks me off... :) P
Guest tsutton Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 The amount of consoles being sold at ridiculous prices on eBay hacks me off... :) Yeah, eBay is a bad place to buy for a brand new console. We know that many "Big Store" will have no more stock. What about driving around and visit any local computer/electronic shop and see if they still sell it. You could try Long Stratton's Co Op? I think they sell electrionic goods in a small section? Or Diss? Best of luck!
Guest mupwangle Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 (edited) Righty. I managed to get a wii by walking into my local Game shop on Wednesday and asked for one and got one. Game only keep pre-orders for 4 days. Check Amazon frequently. Toys r us tend not to do preorders either. Phone them a lot. Keep an eye on forums. For example I noticed a post on www.wiisearcher.com about 2 hours after it was posted - an hour after my local Virgin branch sold out (no queues either!) so I missed out. There is a rumour that ASDA might get some this weekend. Actually there are rumours that quite a few places might get them. Avoid Currys, Dixons and PC World. Apparently they didn't get enough to fill preorders. Gamestation is getting dissed too. Check Woolworths as they are really disorganised. If you get one - warm up before you play it. My bloody elbow is killing me after playing tennis. There are lots of places which seem to be getting stock. Remember the big supermarkets. Tesco Extra is a good bet. Someone walked into Sainsbury's in Huddersfield on launch day and just grabbed one off the shelf. >>The amount of consoles being sold at ridiculous prices on eBay hacks me off... Loads of people have suggested that I put it on ebay and wait till new year to get one. I would have to give myself a kicking though cos I hate profiteering. Edited December 15, 2006 by mupwangle
Guest Laser_iCE Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Well I just got my Wii yesterday, and i can tell you that it's awesome :D I was gonna PM you Paul, but i figure I may as well just ask here -- what are they chances of getting a Wii community set up here? People can post their Wii numbers and stuff :D As for Wii Have A Problem -- that site is dedicated to the idiots that; a. don't tighten their wrist strap b. let go of the wiimote But due to the overwhelming amount of idiots out there, Nintendo were kind enough to replace the straps :) Anyway, I'm gonna go back to Red Steel... Goodbye social life... 1702-6219-5490-3969 :D
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Went into GAME yesterday and they said they had more stock that morning but were sold out agin in ten minutes. According to sale figures the Wii has been the fastest selling console ever.
Guest genaldar Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 The strap is fine. A buddy brought his over last week and for 8 hours 9 of us took turns playing wii sports (and a little marvel alliance, but we preferred the sports) and nothing bad happened. We were swinging our arms like crazy (especially in tennis and baseball) and no one even let go of their wiimote or nunchuck (which is only needed for boxing). But we were smart and put the strap on for everything (even golf which is is all about slow precision movement).
Guest markdotpeters5 Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 The wrist strap thing really is a non issue. There's really no need to swing the thing with anywhere near that amount of force! The Wii is cracking. I wouldn't be without my 360, but the Wii really is a great console too. Got mine on launch day withZelda, Wii sports and Wii Party. Paul: If you haven't already bagged one, try the nearest biggest Asda to you.. my mates managed to get three on Launch day (at midnight) and only queued for two hours.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 Not bagged one yet... May well create a Wii area tho, watch this space. :) P
Guest smeg36 Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 I got my Wii for Christmas a couple weeks ago (no, I didn't wait until Christmas to open it). Just walked in a Target in the US and bought it. No lines, no hassle. I got lucky. It's a great system. I love it. It's amazing for families as well. I've got several people who've never played a video game before to play.
Guest wills Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Just been down my local Argos. They had no stock but 1 on delivery for tomorrow (28th) so have reserved it...
Guest Prosody Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 I got myself a Wii on the 23rd. In my case I was lucky that my best mate works at Game. I mentioned I wanted one on the 21st (after not pre-ordering doh!) and then on the 22nd he rang me to say that they had one they were saving for someone else who decided they didn't want it. :) He also sorted me out with Student discount off it all despite me not being a student. :D So far it's been a hit, had my dad round playing it and he's gonna get a black one when it's released. Also my GF and her Brother and his GF are all big fans of it. we had to take it round to their house boxing day so they could play it. :D Myself, my dad and my GFs Brother all managed to smack the lampshade whilst playing golf however that's more our fault, not the fault of a strap etc. :D
Guest JamieDow Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Tescos seem to be the best for stock, my local store has 5/6 left still :)
Guest Laser_iCE Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I can officially say that during the Christmas days (christmas + boxing), the Wii was a huge hit with my family :) everyone was getting in and having a good time playing bowling and tennis... as stupid as you look, it's friggin enjoyable, lol, and my brother worked up quite a sweat playing boxing!! it's also good to see that my local blockbuster already has a fair few games available, so looks like late fee's ahoy!
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 I got one in the end... it's a great family console :) Now to find somewhere with Wii Play in stock :D P

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 After being ripped off by a bogus site I will not be getting one now. May save up for a DSlite instead.
Guest wills Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 I got one in the end... it's a great family console :) Now to find somewhere with Wii Play in stock :D P I'm really enjoying it at the mo. My kids love it! With regards for the Wii Play - again Argos is where I got mine from. I looked at their web site and reserve it and picked it up last Sunday.
Guest wills Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 (edited) After being ripped off by a bogus site I will not be getting one now. May save up for a DSlite instead. ouch - what site was that? The DS Lite is a fantastic handheld - especially Mario Kart - personally I think it's the best MK yet. And Super is also good - takes me back to my days at university playing it on the N64. Edited January 5, 2007 by wills
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 Site was av village but trading standards managed to get the site taken down.
