Hi

Sorry to sound like a dummy but could someone please answer a few quick questions for me as t-mobile couldn't or wouldn't.

I have a t-mobile MDA compact 3 on Flex 50 with W&W (the 7.50 package).

1) I have a IMAP server, if i leave an active GPRS active (have my mda set to automatically check my email every 30 mins) so the phone's display has the little G at the top with 2 arrows and when you click on it it says "connected to t-mobile internet" does it send/recieve a lot of data when its not checking or downloading my email? or dont i have to worry as i have Web and Walk?

2) what effect does this have on the battery life of the phone?

3) could this be used as an alternative to a black berry kinda thing?

1) makes no difference as you're on W'n'W

2) Not a lot but will decrease it

3) yes but better with an exchange server using MS Push email

4) it shouldn't be.

4) Yeh that makes sence, as its sending radio signals out at once and cant do two things at one.

Try using gprs when making a phone call and it wont work, its just a general sucky problem with gprs.

Are you sure? I have my gprs connected 24/7 and can still make and receive calls, i thought the gprs used a different bit of the signal than that the calls use, that was one of the main advantages of it over wap, apart from the speed without the need for call waiting which some providers charged for.

Also in response to the exchange question, search the forum for direct push and there's a few people who host exchange servers and let you use them, for example www.port88.org

1) I have looked at my GPRS logs I estimate that I use around 300-500KB per day in 'handshakes' with my Exchange server. If you have emails to download then it'll be more, obviously. Not enough to worry about on WnW.

2) small amount... I would guesstimate about 5-10% of total battery per day

3) MS Push is better. I use mail2web.com. I upgraded to the personal account instead of the free account so it appears that I am emailing to/from my gmail account. works very well. no gripes so far.

So how can a land line have phone calls and broadband connected at the same time...? Frequency.

GPRS and Voice use different frequencies of the radio spectrum. I would guess that the fact that GPRS is connected is not the reason your phone isn't working. I am connected GPRS 24/7 and have never had a problem dialing before.
