Guest slamming_sammy1 Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Hello there everyone, was wondering if my Audiovox smt5600 can use 4 gig mini sd ? they keep coming down in price and would love to get one. the seller on that auction site states that some device may need firmware upgrade but i don't believe the audiovox has any firmware ugprades. if you know that it can use the 4 gigger, please let me know. thanks a lot. - Sammy
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 According to MobyMemory's product compatibility list the card is tested to be working with your phone : http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?p...mb%5FMOBY%5F002 :)

Guest mini_man Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 yup I can confirm that the 4gb mini sd from mobymemory works in the C500 :)
Guest genaldar Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 (edited) According to MobyMemory's product compatibility list the card is tested to be working with your phone : http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?p...mb%5FMOBY%5F002 :) I wouldn't trust mobymemory. They list the wrong memory for the mpx220 and I've sent them emails to correct it and they refuse. Even after sending a link to the motorola spec sheet that lists minisd as the correct memory they persist on listing microsd for that phone. Of course if you look at minisd cards the mpx220 is listed there, but if you look by phone type it lists microsd (even though none of the cards on the page list the mpx220 as being compatible). Guest mini_man Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 hmm but I can assure you that he 4gb mini sd that they sell works in C500 C550 C600 and a vario! Sam
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I've never had a problem with MobyMemory but I'm having trouble with the 4gig mini-SD in my C600. Looks like I will have to reformat the card to see if that helps. Have just seen this thread which looks like it might be useful : http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=250494&hl=
Guest mini_man Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 odd? it worked fine in my C600? I formatted it into fat16
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Yeah, that's what I've got to do. FAT32 doesn't seem to work :) BTW Sam, your last response was double-posted so I deleted it.
Guest xavalon Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 hmm but I can assure you that he 4gb mini sd that they sell works in C500 C550 C600 and a vario! Sam I have the same problems with the mobymemory 4GB miniSD on my QTEK 8310 Applications which are stored, write or read from the memorycard let my phone hang. They also corrupt the filesystem (chkdsk to confirm); i formatted the card several times in FAT and FAT32. I mailed HTC and they said 4GB miniSD wasn't supported (only 2GB max) even though on their website they claim miniSD up to 12GB should be supported. Now HTC say that is an error on their website which they fix. In the end i even partitioned the card (now recognized als '/storage card' (2GB) and '/storage card2' (1.9 or better the rest of the 4GB) but still i have problems. So far my miniSD 4GB is useless. Awaiting support from mobymemory, but during these christmas days is was in no luck to get any email response yet. I am out of options what to do; the card is useless to me. I placed back my 2GB card (from mobymemory too) which works perfectly. Hoping i get help from mobymemory soon, still might that i just got a faulty one.
Guest mini_man Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 @ Disco Stu sorry thanks for that! @Xavalon man that sucks! yeh can confirm it works in a C600 which is the same board as your QTEK as for contacting them good luck its impossible! however a poke around the internet about 0870 number led me to this website http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php and a simple search led with this number 020 73287164 A London based number, so i rung and a very helpful man picked up who i think does the testing and is the webmaster of the forum! (i rung when i was enquirying whether the card worked in the vario?). Hope this is useful and hope you get a working card soon! Sam
Guest Mister Beefhead Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Slamming_sammy, did the card you purchased end up working for you? I just purchased one myself and am having no luck getting my SMT-5600 to acknowledge it. I haven't tried formatting it to fat16 yet, that's my next step (first I have to get myself a reader...)

Hi there, yeah, it worked w/out any problems. I bought it on ebay for like $70 at that time and looks like they are selling for like $40 now. anyway, I don't remember what I formatted it in, but it worked pretty much right out of the box. so, just try and format it in the other format.
Guest Confucious Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Same discussion going on here -> http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry808383

Guest slamming_sammy1 Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Thanks for the info! Would you happen to know what the brand of card you're using is? (FWIW, I'm trying to use a Transcend card, model TS4GSDMHC) the brand is TopRam. here's the link to the exact one I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=280063780924 $46 shipped now, wow. I may buy another.
Guest Mister Beefhead Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Well, I bought a card reader today, and no matter how I format the card, my SMT-5600 will not acknowledge it. I guess I'm going to order one of those topram cards that worked for you.
Guest mgcell Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Has anyone tried Kingston 4gb mini sd HC Class 4 card with an Audiovox SMT5600? I currently have a Sandisk 2gb card installed, and it has been working great for over a year. I wanted to upgrade to 4gb and purchased a 4gb card on eBay. Reading through several previous discussion threads on this forum, it is not clear to me whether a 4gb card I just bought will work in my SMT5600, as there are several posts providing conflicting information. So, has anyone had any luck with this setup? Thanks.

I'm copying a bunch of stuff over as we speak. I didn't have to format or anything.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 That's an old post you dug up & welcome to the site ;) You should not need to format, the problem you may have is if the card is SDHC, if it is then it will not work correctly with the phone. If it does work ok then the card is the old standard SD. What was the make of card you bought?
