Guest p2daz Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Is anyone else using Vista here with success? In general i have vista running very well although i can't get my SP5 to be recognised , i hear an acknowledgement sound when it's plugged in and out,it comes up as unrecognised device in device manager and i can't update the driver. I downloaded and Installed Mobile Device Center when i plugged my phone in MDC started but failed to connect. I can't connect via bluetooth either but that may be a totally separate can of worms! I am using the rather optimistic RTM version too :) Any ideas??
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Check Device Manager\Portable Devices\Windows Mobile Device is not disabled, I had the same problem with my vario but not with my other WM5 devices.
Guest p2daz Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 I can't see any mention of Portable devices in Device manager?
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Soft reset your device then once it has re-booted plug it in again and see if device manager shows Portable Device or Mobile Device (they have two different logos).
Guest p2daz Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Soft reset your device then once it has re-booted plug it in again and see if device manager shows Portable Device or Mobile Device (they have two different logos). When i do this, device manager refreshes as if the phone is recognised but there is no mention of portable or mobile device, incidently the unknown device i mentioned in my first post appears to be something else?? I do get an Icon flash up very briefly in the taskbar when i connect the phone - so briefly i can't make out what it is though...
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Have you previously managed to sync the device before with Device Center? Also try another usb port.
Guest p2daz Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Awarner - if you were next to me i'd give you a big kiss!! Swapped usb ports and hey presto! How can this happen - it's a 2 day old laptop?? Thanks a million :)
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Welcome :D But go easy on the kiss I may be divorced but I'm not intending to be batting for the other side :)
Guest p2daz Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 (edited) Welcome :D But go easy on the kiss I may be divorced but I'm not intending to be batting for the other side :) You may have to wait for the kiss matey, i'm back to square one... When i swapped usb port i had the new hardware balloon pop up and it installed the generic rndis driver etc with no problems but the phone is still not appearing in device manager and MDC still can't connect... I swapped usb again and it went through the same process "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adaptor#3 installed and ready to use" so it looks like the phone is recognised etc so i am going to reinstall WMDC and try again.... Guest awarner (MVP) Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Also try deleting the old partnerships if any were made.
Guest p2daz Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Also try deleting the old partnerships if any were made. I think thats whats happening each time i swap ports hence #3, god knows how/where to delete them from though?
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Click on the sync center icon in the system tray and then delete the partnership from the sync center screen.
Guest p2daz Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Well i think it's about the end of the road for me and Vista :) - for now anyway. I have had no joy at all, When i hook up the phone to my usb i get a brief tone and an icon flashes up very briefly in the taskbar - i think its the 'safely remove hardware' icon, but thats it, its as if the phone is being recognised then drops out straight after. Whether it's linked but the same seems to happen with bluetooth, the phone pairs for a second then drops out again. I have tried removing and re-installing drivers and WMDC with no luck. Awarner, i can't find any reference to any partnerships in WMDC, or for that matter anywhere else, Anyone any ideas before i ditch it for good old XP??
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Are you using the MS anti virus protection beta called One Care that you can add to Vista? I had to remove it as that mixed with the firewall stopped me connecting to any device. I've managed to sync all my devices so far from the C500 to the JasJar.

Nope, no anti virus software at all ,i haven't got round to that yet :) also disabled the windows firewall to see if that made any difference, I was going to re-install vista tonight but it seems like i'm having trouble with my ipod as well, so its looking very much like xp is going back on later :D
Guest StuBFrost Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 Was Vista an upgrade or a fresh install. If it was an upgrade did you uninstall Activesync ? This needs to be done. Stuart

Stuart It was a fresh install, i have now dropped back to XP, i was wondering whether i would have had the problems i had if i had upgraded? The xp drivers all present and correct would maybe have worked ok on Vista, anyhow, its done now and i think i'll wait for better drivers before installing next time. I did notice as well that the battery life on my laptop was significantly reduced even with the power settings altered to preserve power??
Guest mini_man Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 My C600 works fine with vista? Its running the SP5 firmware so it was definetly a software problem on your part as it syncs fine on this end? Sam
Guest Suizid Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 (edited) I'm having a similar issue - my M3100 just isn't picked up in Vista when I try any USB port. It's charging, and the ports work with everything else, but I get nothing appearing under Portable Devices in the Device Manager, and Mobile Devices doesn't exist as a category. I get no flash of anything to confirm it's found something new either. Edit: Vista final, all up to date. Edited January 9, 2007 by Suizid
Guest p2daz Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Well i wish i could help but as you see above i had no joy whatsoever and wussed out and went back to XP, makes you wonder why its labelled as the RTM version doesn't it :) Good luck...
Guest Suizid Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I saw a post from a MVP over on the technet forums who said we were looking at February before an update. The worst bit is that my old C500 syncs without a hitch!
Guest nightdrive Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Well i wish i could help but as you see above i had no joy whatsoever and wussed out and went back to XP, makes you wonder why its labelled as the RTM version doesn't it :) Good luck... I have Vista installed (final release, got it through MSDN), and I have a WM5 Pocket PC (iPaq hx4700) which connects and syncs fine, and a WM5 Smartphone (SPV C600) which will only connect in the Sync Center, but not in Mobile Device Center - so no Outlook sync is possible. I tried for days to get it working, but to no avail. I had upgraded Vista from XP, but uninstalled ActiveSync first. Strange that one device works, the other doesn't. I put it down to one being a Smartphone instead of the Pocket PC version of WM5, and the fact that the Windows Mobile Device Center is Beta 3. I'm sticking with Vista for now, and awaiting a newer version of WMDC
Guest Suizid Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 The 3100 is the PPC version of WM5 and doesn't work. I put it down to Microsoft's agenda against me personally :)
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Suizid have you tried checking Device Manager to make sure the 3100 is enabled?
Guest Suizid Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Yup. The C500 appears under "mobile devices", but the M3100 doesn't appear in either "mobile devices" or "portable devices", and doesn't even invoke an entry with an exclamation anywhere.
