Guest MacHooligan Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 Can anyone explain why a .cab file doesn't seem to install up on my Vario II using Missing Sync? I've attempted to install it (Palm threaded SMS app, 4.3MB) in the usual way via USB but I can't see the file anywhere via file explorer, even after a soft reset & using search. Tried a few times now with no luck. I don't get the normal warning on the device whilst attempting installation either...which is the first sign something isn't right. Anyone any idea? It's driving me mad!
Guest robcoh Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 I used to use missing sync/pocket mac, found both very poor and used boot camp. Anyhow I found that to install applications that were .cab, the best way to do it was to send it using bluetooth or an email (as many of the cabs i have come across have been small), and then installing it on the device itself. You will get a message saying something similar to "The device does not accept this file type" but gives you the option to "Send Anyway" and then it will appear as a cab in your "My Documents", just click to install. Hope this helps Rob
Guest Alsicole Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 To install using Missing Sync on my Vario, I just drag the file from the desktop of my Mac to the Install Window on Missing Sync. Then wait a short while as the CAB copies over (there's a progress bar). Once that's done I go into My Documents, which seems to be the default place for it to copy to. Whether it's My Documents in main memory or on the storage card will depend on what you've got the "Files to install to:" drop-down set to. If this is exactly what you're doing and it still isn't working, then you may need to contact Mark Space support.

I've tried sending the .cab to my Vario II via bluetooth, but get the following error 'Device does not have the necessary services' and the files is too large to send via email, even as a zipped file. When I send it via USB as I do with most .cab files the device 'blinks' as if the file has reached it's destination, but isn't anywhere to be seen when I search using file explorer. Any other ideas on this?
