SPV M3100 internet connection problem

Hi,

Firstly my setup with the SPV m3100:

It's actually my wife's upgrade with Orange which i've been happily using for a couple of months. My Orange a/c isn't 3G so the phone uses only GPRS.

I use the push email function using mail2web.

The problem:

Connecting to the inernet i.e. orange world is a frustrating nightmare. I use it alot for train times, news etc etc but at least 50% of the time it refuses to connect either staying on "loacting" for ages with nothing or bringing up a message saying it couldn't find the address.

The only way I seem to be able to overcome the problem is by switching flightmode on and then off again. I'm usually then able to connect straight away without problem.

I don't know what on earth could be causing this issue? Could it be caused by my continuous gprs connection to push email or that it's a 3g phone only running gprs??

The only other hint i have is that when I try and send an mms, a message appears saying the mms can't be sent with my current connection and offers me the option to close my gprs connection and open a new one, which i do and then iit's fine.

Any help will be really appriciated.

Ok, at last got through to orange re pass thru and wi fi.

Wi fi is connected but will not connect to the interenet. Orange have tried to help but really unless I am with orange internet, they can't help because they basically don't know. They did however say that it may be a problem with the channel number on the router. I have a DSL-G604T and have tried channels 1-10 with no joy. When I try to connect, a screen comes up saying that "you have entered an address for Orange World which will only work on an Orange phone." Trying google the screen says firstly "running a system command on this item might be unsafe. Do you wish to continue." clicking yes the screen then says "The file http (etc) cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file."! Orange have never heard of this before???

Orange tell me that pass thru does not work with the M3100? Has anyone got an idea of what is going on as I really need the wi fi.

Passthru and wifi are different things. Passthru is to use your pc's internet connection when connected by usb or bt to activesync.

And you can only access Orange World over their GPRS access point - so it sounds like you are connected to wifi if you get Orange Worlds error message as that is generated from their server.

If not - do you get an IP address when you try to connect to your wifi router (and does your device show up in the dhcp client list in the routers webinterface)? There are loads of reasons why wifi may not be working - channel, wep, mac filter etc.

It sounds like you arent entering the correct syntax for google. Try typing in a correct web address such as http://www.google.co.uk

Hey,

Anyone able to help on my original question above?

Cheers

Yes. Just hold the red key down for three seconds to end the current gprs connection and then try whatever you were doing before. This starts a new GPRS connection and will usually sort out the intermittent connection problem.
