VNC client beta testers wanted

I've been working on a VNC client for Windows Mobile 5 PocketPC devices, and have reached the stage where it'll be good to get some beta testers with different devices, systems and configurations.

Screenshots:

Please contact me if you're interested in trying it out! Please also suggest any features I may have forgotten.

Thanks for your replies, I'll contact you in a few days when I've prepared a build for everyone to try, and set up a wee forum or something for bugs to be reported/discussed.

Just as a note those screenshots are from the QVGA and VGA PocketPC emulators supplied with VS2005, but I'm also primarily testing it on an MDA Pro. I'm very pleased with the performance on a 3G network, my computers are quite usable away from home!

Count me in for beta testing too if you haven't already got too many volunteers. (MDA Vario 2)

Hi all,

Lots of interest! Regarding 2003 devices, the current version is only WM5 (as it uses DirectX to optimise video updates). However, 2003 is something I intend to add support for (and a previous GAPI mode was 2003 compatible), so I'll keep you posted. I've also been considering a Smartphone version (it had been suggested, although I wasn't sure there'd be much interest), so I'll consider adding it (most of it should be portable between the interfaces).

This past weekend I was moving flat so didn't get online much to create a forum, but hopefully tonight or tomorrow I can get one set up and I shall send everyone interested information so you can register.

Thanks,

Colin

I'm definately interested. I Have a Universal (M5000), currently with an AKU 3.5 Rom. I would use it to connect to a Windows Server 2003 machine. It would be good if you could specify a particular port, which you cant do in the MS included one

Smartphone version would be crucial if you want your version to stand out. Back when I had a PPC, I had a choice of VNC viewers that worked well for different applications (some scaled the screen better, some had faster response times), so I could switch depending upon what I was trying to do.

Smartphone, however, has been very seriously overlooked because, as you say, most people don't think there will be as much of a demand for it. The result is a seriously limited number of Smartphone clients with very limited features (in fact, in all my searching I've only found 2 clients in existance- one open source , and one commercial).

To be honest, neither one is so amazing, but they both do their job adequately.

Now that smartphones are getting more popular, I would suggest you not ignore them!

If you could produce a decent smartphone app, us smartphone users would all jump on it (there are more of us than you think)!

I would have to agree with dishe. I have a t-mobile dash, and would love a better option for a VNC client. I am definitely willing to beta test.

Any idea when we will be getting our copies?

Sorry for the delay!

Everyone who's interested, I've set up a small forum so please go here and register:

http://www.mice-software.com/vncbeta/index.php

When you have, PM me here with the name you chose there and I'll enable your accounts. Then, you shall be able to download the beta.

Smartphone users, although your version is not yet implemented please also register, as I have ideas for the interface and you shall be notified when it is ready for testing.
