Does anyone know where I can find a free Bible reader AND Bible files for my WM5 SmartPhone? I have seen Laridian and Olive Tree, but they charge for the Bible files. I am looking for the New Living Translation.

Peace <><

I've never understood the need to have the bible with you 24/7. Maybe it's because I'm so non-religious (self avowed agnostic).

I mean if you're at work when the rapture happens and you don't have a bible near by will you accidentally be left behind (to clarify this is meant tongue in cheek)?

I can see it being useful to have with you. I can understand how some people won't understand it, but reading parts on a daily basis is helpful. Having your bible on your PDA means you have it with you all the time - no need to have to take a physical one around (or forget to take it with you).

Also, something may happen which triggers a memroy of a particular verse, and you want to check what the context of it was (context is very important!).

I know some people who even use theirs during church, rather than use the bibles provided. Once you get used to searching, or using something you tend to want to use it for everything.

Just as some people want their entire MP3 collection with them because, to them, it's important - to Christians many feel it's important to have their bible with them - not for some super-spiritual reason - but because it's an integral and important part of their lives. Christians believe that God inspired the writers of it's books, and that the contents are His words - (not going to look it up, don't have it on my PDA - so might be wrong! :) ) - 'All scripture is God breathed and is useful in teaching...' is a particular one which comes to mind. Also it says that 'man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God'. To Christians, reading the bible is as important as eating - feeding not just the physical bodies, but also our minds. There's aways something that can be learnt from it - even from a bit which you may have read many times.

Okay - I'm sure plenty of people won't agree with that - but that is a reason why Christians may want to have a bible on their PDA.

As for getting free copies of the bible. Whilst many (older) translations are in the public domain, many newer ones are copyrighted - hence not being free. I don't know about the NLT version, but this was certainly the case for the NIV at one point.

If you have a net connection on your phone, then something like www.biblegateway.com is useful, many translations and a good search engine.

Apologise to anyone who may have taken offence to what I've written. It wasn't an attempt to preach, just explain why goes on in the minds of some Christians. We're not all weird! :D

I use esword from www.e-sword.com. They have a free Bible reader and numerous Bibles, concordances and dictionaries - most of which are free. Unfortunately the NLT is not free. You could always use the KJV.

I am horribly offended by your thoughtful, informative answer. I shall write my congressman! :D

In all seriousness though, thanks for answer. Although I think people who carry all of their music with them all the time are a little crazy.
