WIFI problems on MDA Vario

Hello,

I'm read all the posts I can here, but I'm still having problems connecting my Vario to wifi.

Basically I have an unlocked ex-T-mobile MDA Vario that I'm trying to connect to wifi.

I have tried to connect to my home wifi network and several other networks but can't actually make things work; my Vario sees the network and in my home case actually says connected, but when I open up Internet Explorer it opens up a box saying 'The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again.'

Under the Wireless LAN settings I'm not sure if I should be putting something in the fields for LEAP or ENROLL and I'm not sure what goes in there anywhere - under Enroll it asks for username and password and server - are these necessary and what are they?

Incidentally my Vario can log onto the wireless router because I can type in the IP address and alter settings - I just can't get past it to the actual internet.

Any help would be much appreciated - in basic terms please!

Thanks again.

Is the network set up on your MDA to connect to the internet? there's two choices when the network is first detected, check that that's set up first of all and also verify that a correct IP is being assigned, with most routers, unless you've got it configured differently will have something in the 192.168.*.* range, check and make sure you don't have MAC address filtering as well on the router side. I found that mine worked straight away, so you shouldn't need to change anything unless you have alternative settings router side. Also i'm guessing if you say it's unlocked then you've updated to a recent version of firmware? i know newer versions support higher security, so if you're router is using a higher level of security than your phone supports then that could also be a problem. post back with the answers to these and any other information you feel may be relevant, even if it sounds trivial! Also welcome to MoDaCo!

Thanks for the reply and the welcome - I'm sorry but I couldn't reply yesterday as I couldn't log onto the site for some reason.

Anyway, I do have the Vario set to Internet, although I've tried both settings. I have also tried disabling the security on two home networks now - with no luck connecting. The IP address that is showing under the Advanced tab of Wireless LAN settings is 10.0.0.12 with the network I'm currently looking at, and I'm fairly sure it was something like that on my home network. Am I supposed to put something under LEAP or Enroll though?

My Vario is unlocked, but I bought it that way; I picked it up second hand a couple of weeks ago.

The ROM version seems to say; 2.21.2.109 and the ROM date is 3/9/06 - although I don't know if this is US date format.

I tried to connect to a BT openworld network at the airport earlier today and that didn't work either. Considering I can look at my router itself wirelessly I think I must be nearly there - it must be something simple I'm sure.

Finally the MAC address filtering doesn't seem to be active on my home network - although I haven't managed to check any other network (and I'm not really sure what this means).

Thanks again for the help- I would really love to get this feature working as it was one of the reasons I got the thing in the first place!

Cheers.

Hmm, 10.0.0.* is a private address range which suggests it's being assigned by the dhcp(this generally happens when connecting a router, if you don't understand it doesn't matter, it's good that thats happening) although really with that happening it should mean that the internet on your phone is working

the last thing to check is just incase it's changed back is go to comm manager>settings>wifi>menu>network cards>network adapters and check it's set to internet. Otherwise i'd try reinstalling the firmware from the t mobile website.
