Guest Aero Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 As above really, worked fine yesterday - tried to put it on silent earlier and the button looked slightly recessed :D Can't get it to work at all now - can change profile from the homescreen, and could power off by pulling the battery - but I'm guessing I'll never get it to power up again :) Any suggestions? Common problem? If I take it apart to have a look then warranty is voided... I'm guessing I have to back up and return :D That'll be my 4th C600 - can I get Orange to replace it with something more reliable??
Guest Philpo Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 I had the exact same problem. Called orange via 150 / broken phone menu, spoke to the operator and they replaced the handset cause it was still under the manufacture's warranty. Just call them, it should all be good :) Don't let them make you buy insurance it should be a straight forward RTM! Cheers & Good Luck!
Guest Aero Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 :D Thanks for the response! So it'll be a straightforward replacement via courier? Can't be bothered with them taking it away for weeks :) Cheers!
Guest Aero Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Just spoke to Orange and they are demanding that I pay £15 for the privilege of claiming on the insurance. I explained that I was not claiming on the insurance but that the phone was faulty, but they weren't having it. I had to agree because I need a phone that works. Surely this can't be right?

Don't let them bully you into it, insist on a direct macufacturer replacement as it is something wrong with the PHONE and NOT something YOU YOURSELF have done. Phil

Phil Unfortunately it is being replaced by courier tomorrow morning - is it too late? The cs guy was pretty unhelpful.

Yeah it is a bit too late, they'll charge you the 15 quid regardless of whether you want it or not <_< And if your not in, then they'll charge another £13 for redelivery.... gits <_< Phil
Guest Aero Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 Just had a rather circular argument with a chap from Orange. Gist: Me: I shouldn't have to pay as the phone was faulty Him: You had the phone replaced under insurance so you have to pay Me: I didn't want to claim under the insurance though, surely it should be covered by warranty Him: In that case it should have been sent to HTC for a repair Me: I didn't know that was an option, the chap I spoke to said I had to use the insurance. <....> Eventually they agreed to waive the upgrade fee BUT apparently I won't be "allowed" to use the manufacturer's warranty if it goes faulty again :) I asked why, as surely it should still be warranteed - apparently it is a reconditioned phone and as such there is no warranty. Sounds like bullshit to me and if it comes to that I will give them s*** - this is my 4th C600 in 6 months anyway (all faulty). So a small victory anyway - just have to get this one to last another year until I can change away from Orange and make sure I have a 12 month contract. The problem with longer ones is that I have had very few phones that have lasted longer without needing replacing (and I am not hard on them). The only ones I can think of are my Nokia Orange 5.1 and my Nokia 8310 (which I still use with a PAYG SIM). Hey ho.
Guest Michaelangelo Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Hi, Same problem here, but on my SPV C550.... The power button is now slightly recessed and it's hard to get it to work. I'm sure if it ever powers down it will be hard to switch the phone on again. The warranty ran out a month ago and it's PAYG with no insurance. Anyone any ideas what's gone wrong with it - is it worth pulling apart to try and fix? Is there an alternative way to access the menu / switch the phone on? Thanks

Thanks OK, problem solved so thought it worth sharing incase anybody else experiences the same. I simply pulled the phone apart and fixed the problem as follows: 1) Follow the instructions to remove the facia of the C550 (these can easily be found on this forum by a simple search) - be very careful here as the keyboard connector is on the left hand side of the keyboard and connects the facia to the back of the phone and if forced you may damage it. 2) Where the power switch is at the top left, it's enclosed in some flimsy metal casing (5mm across and 4mm down). In the centre of the small metal casing the metal has been punced in to form a kind of tab which pushes the button back out. The button part which slides into the tiny metal casing had jammed against this tab - probably as the tab had weakened over time and the tab wasn't now pushing the switch back up. With a tiny screwdriver, I just pushed the tab in very slightly and the switch popped back up and now seems to work ok again. Hope this helps.
