Guest Doctor HRH Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 If you're considering an alternative to the M3100 - don't bother with the Sony Ericsson P990i on Orange. I waited for about 6 months before upgrading to the SE P990 because I was fed up with bug-ridden unstable Windows Mobile devices, and turned a free M3100 down as a result. I wish I hadn't bothered waiting now. The P990 is an awful disappointment. It crashes loads, the camera freezes up and the wireless is very unstable. I'm on my second P990 handset now and it's actually worse than the first one - i.e. more unstable. I'm starting to wonder if Orange just isn't cut out for tailoring smartphone software. I've had a Sony Ericsson P800, an Orange M1000 and an M2000 all on Orange with Orange software. All of these devices were prone to freezing up and crashing. So basically I've got quite a bit of experience with both Windows Mobile and Symbian Operating Systems. However - and this is perhaps the most important point - I bought a P900 from a work colleague and this handset was unlocked but originally on T Mobile. I have to say that I had pretty much no problems with it. Strongly suggests that Orange software is basically not up to the job. I'm a bit stuck as to what to do here. I'm only 3 months into the contract, otherwise I would probably think about moving to another network. Hmm, looks like I need to talk seriously to Orange about an alternative handset. Anyone got any tips or advice? Cheers, Harvey
Guest pisquee Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 It is quite easy on doing a hard reset, to stop the M3100 installing all the Orange gubbins, and just having the standard windows/htc software. makes the phone more stable and it runs faster. Do a search here for how to do it.

I agree with you there pisquee, Ive owned nearly every smartphone and Pda Orange have released and the 1st thing I do is hard reset and then soft reset just befor the Orange crap load up. Windows software is fine out of the box. As regards to your replacement handset, try the M3100 its a nice device, BUt personally Im waiting for the M700 as Im after built in GPS.
Guest Doctor HRH Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Thanks for that guys. Have you got any idea when to expect the M700? I know this is a windows forum but I don't suppose you know if it's possible to take the Orange nonsense of the P990. If so how would I do it? I'm a bit desperate you see, otherwise I wouldn't ask!
